Cystic Echinococcosis (CE) caused by metacestodes of Echinococcusgranulosus is an endemic disease presenting general health problem in Turkey.The main clinical manifestation of CE is mass where it is localized. Thesymptoms are related to whether the pressure of this mass or its rupture,allergic reaction and infection.In this study, 91 patients with CE have been investigated according totheir demographic features and also macroscopic and microscopichistopathological examinations. In intermediate host tissue, the diagnosticvalues of the necrosis and its relationship with serologic findings have beenthoroughly discussed.The outcomes of this study could be summarized as follows: CElocalized intraabdominally were seen with more multi-organ presentation, CEfound in liver and intraabdominally caused bigger cyst formation, thestatistically significant relationship with weak correlation were found betweenthe longer symptomatic CE and the bigger cyst sizes, necrosis which was themost relevant histopathologic finding of this study was seen more often withfibrosis, eosinophilia and giant cells at the neighbored tissue than withmononuclear cells, neutrophilia and protoscolex, necrosis was observed inmostly at liver and kidney localization than the other organs, higher titration ofIHA was with more often in the cases where their histopathologic examinationwas marked as necrosis and eosinophil positive.To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study reporting necrosis asa histopathologic finding of CE. Further studies should be realized to reveal thepathologic mechanism and the clinical importance of the necrosis seen in thehost tissue of the patients with CE.Key words: Cystic echinococcosis, Echinococcus granulosus,Histhopathology, Necrosis.

Echinococcus granulosus'un larval formunun sebep oldugu kistikekinokokkozis (KE) ülkemizde endemik olarak görülen büyük bir halk saglıgısorunudur. Klinik olarak yerlestigi organda yer kaplayan olusum olarakkarsımıza çıkmaktadır. Yerlestigi organda basıya baglı semptomlargelisebilecegi gibi bazı vakalarda rüptür, alerjik reaksiyonlar ve enfeksiyongelisimi de görülebilmektedir.Bu çalısmada 91 olgu yas, cinsiyet, lokalizasyon, semptomların sekli vesüresi açısından, olguların eksizyon örnekleri ise makroskobik ve mikroskobikolarak incelenmis ve konak doku reaksiyonu olarak belirtilen alanda görülennekrozun KE'daki tanısal degeri ve serolojik bulgularla iliskisi arastırılmıstır.ntraabdominal yerlesimin diger tutulumlara göre daha fazla çoklu organtutulumu gösterdigi, karaciger ve intraabdominal tutulumlarda daha büyükkistlerle karsılasıldıgı, semptom süresinin uzamasıyla kist büyüklügününistatistiksel olarak anlamlı olarak arttıgı, ancak zayıf dogrusal iliski gösterdigi,histopatolojik olarak fibrozis, çevresel dokuda eozinofil varlıgı, nötrofil ve devhücre gözlenmesinin daha sıklıkla nekrozla birlikte görüldügü (MNH, germinatifhücre membranı ve skoleks görülmesi ile karsılastırıldıgında), karaciger veböbrekte nekrozun daha fazla, diger yerlesim yerlerinde daha az görüldügü,IHA'da yüksek titrasyonlu olguların kistlerinde daha sıklıkla nekroz görüldügü,eozinofillerin daha yüksek titre pozitif IHA sonuçlu olgularda görüldügü ortayakonmustur.Gözlemlenen nekrozun olus mekanizması ve klinik önemi daha ileriçalısmalara gerek duymaktadır.
