In this study, it was aimed to determine the characteristics of the construction materials in Boğsak Island (Silifke, Mersin) Late Antique settlement for conservation purposes with the use of archeometric methods. The analyzed constructional materials were stone, soil, spring water, brick/tile, mortar, plaster and metal samples. The physical, chemical and petrographical features of the sample construction and raw material samples were specified through archeometric analyses. Of the basic physical tests; unit volume weight, porosity, water absorption capacity and hardness, of the chemical tests and analyses; conductivity analysis/water soluble salt tests, acidic aggregate/binder analysis, granulometric analysis-the particle size distribution in aggregate, gravimetric analysis/loss on ignition analysis, X-Ray Fluorescence Analysis (PED-XRF and point Micro-XRF), inductively coupled plasma analysis (ICP), Confocal Raman Microscopy analysis and petrographical thin section optical microscope analysis were applied. Within the scope of the study, the materials belonging to Boğsak Island buildings, which are part of Late Antique Period settlement, and their deterioration were photographed and documented on site and coded for the analyses in the laboratory. The body colours of brick and tile samples were documented via the chromametric analysis and with the CEI L*a*b* color system. Various deteriorations were identified in the constructional stones and bricks/tiles, which provide low durability data due to their physical characteristics. Plasters bear higher hydraulic quality in comparison with mortars. Although the geological formation of the Island is limestone, construction materials which can be attributed to different rock origins must be obtained from the Island and nearby formations. Also, there are not any clay deposits on the Island.

Bu çalışmada, Boğsak Adası (Silifke, Mersin) Geç Antik Dönem yerleşimi yapı malzemelerinin korunmasına yönelik özelliklerinin arkeometrik yöntemlerle tespiti amaçlanmıştır. İncelenen yapı malzemeler taş, toprak, kaynak suyu, tuğla/kiremit, harç, sıva ve metal örnekleridir. Örneklenen yapı malzemeleri ve hammadde örneklerinin fiziksel, kimyasal ve petrografik özellikleri ve bozulmaları arkeometrik analizlerle belirlenmiştir. Temel fiziksel testlerden birim hacim ağırlığı, gözeneklilik, su emme kapasitesi ve kayaç sertliği, kimyasal test ve analizlerden iletkenlik analizi/suda çözünen tuz testleri, asidik agrega/bağlayıcı analizi, granülometrik elek analizi-agregada tane boyutu dağılımı, gravimetrik analiz/kızdırma kaybı analizi, X-Işını Floresans analizi (PED-XRF ve noktasal Mikro-XRF), indüktif eşleşmiş plazma analizi (ICP), Konfokal Raman Mikroskopi analizi ve petrografik ince kesit optik mikroskop analizi uygulanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında, Geç Antik Dönem yerleşimine sahip olan Boğsak Adası yapılarına ait malzemeler ve bozulmaları yerinde fotoğraflanarak belgelenmiş, laboratuvar ortamında da analizler için kodlanmıştır. Tuğla ve kiremit örneklerin hamur renkleri kromametrik analiz ile CEI L*a*b* renk sistemi ile belgelenmiştir. Fiziksel özellikleri ile düşük dayanım verileri sunan yapısal taş ve tuğla/kiremitlerde çeşitli türde bozulmalar belirlenmiştir. Harçlara oranla sıvalar daha yüksek hidrolik özellik taşımaktadır. Boğsak Adası'nın jeolojik formasyonu kireçtaşı olmasına rağmen farklı kayaç kökenlerine adreslenebilecek yapı malzemeleri adadan ve yakın çevre formasyonlarından temin edilmiş olmalıdır. Adada kil yatakları da bulunmamaktadır.
