Purpose: The study aims to examine the effect of teaching foreign languages through mini texts in 9th-grade German courses in secondary schools. The study was conducted in Erzurum Anatolian High School in Erzurum in 2019-2020 academic year.Method: In the study, semi-experimental method with the pre-test and post-test design of quantitative research methods was used. Data were collected by an achievement test. An independent t-test was used in the analysis of the collected data.Findings: In the study, no significant difference was found between the experimental group in which the mini texts were used and the control group in which the traditional teaching method was used as a result of the independent samples t-test regarding the total pre-test scores in the 9th-grade German course. At the end of the application process, there was a significant difference between the results of the independent t-test when the post-test achievement test scores of the students in the experimental and control groups were concerned. Findings obtained as a result of the achievement test support the conclusion that there may be significant differences in favor of the experimental group in the first application of the study.Result: The results of this study show us that the use of mini text in teaching German as a foreign language is more effective compared to the traditional teaching method.Keywords: mini text, language teaching, traditional teaching, foreign language education, teaching through text.

Amaç: Bu çalışma ortaöğretim okullarında 9. Sınıf Almanca dersinde mini metinler yolu ile yapılan yabancı dil öğretiminin etkisini inceleme amacı taşımaktadır. Çalışma 2019-2020 eğitim öğretim yılında Erzurum ilinde yer alan bir Anadolu Lisesi'nde yapılmıştır.Yöntem: Çalışmada yöntem olarak nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden ön test son test kontrol gruplu yarı-deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada veriler başarı testi ile toplanmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analiz sürecinde bağımsız t testi kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Çalışmada toplam ön test puanlarına ilişkin bağımsız gruplar t-testi sonucunda mini metinlerin uygulandığı deney grubu ve geleneksel öğretim yönteminin uygulandığı kontrol grubu arasında 9. sınıf Almanca dersinde önemli bir farklılık bulunmamıştır. Uygulama sürecinin sonunda deney ve kontrol grubunda yer alan öğrencilerin son test başarı testi puanları söz konusu olduğunda yapılan bağımsız gruplar t-testinin sonuçlarına göre anlamlı bir fark oluşmuştur. Başarı testinin sonucunda ulaşılan bulgular çalışmanın ilk uygulamasında deney grubu lehine anlamlı farklar olabileceği yargısını destekler niteliktedir.Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın sonuçları bize yabancı dil olarak Almanca öğretiminde mini metin kullanımının faydalı olduğunu ayrıca geleneksel öğretim yöntemi ile karşılaştırıldığında daha etkili olduğunu göstermektedir.Anahtar Kelimeler: mini metin, dil öğretimi, geleneksel öğretim, yaban dil eğitimi, metin yoluyla öğretim.
