In this study, the relationship between the university students' time spent on social media and their loneliness was investigated with the dimensions of Relaxation and Free Period, Academic Period, Social Activity Periods, Stress-Related Period and Usage Motivations, which are sub-factors of SONTUS scale.The sample of this study consists of 428 volunteer university students, 189 of whom are female and 239 of which are male. In order to measure the loneliness levels of university students, UCLA Loneliness Scale SONTUS Scale and Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher were used to measure the time they spend on social media. SPSS 24.00 package program was used for data analysis. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to reveal the relationship between the variables. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that there was a statistically significant relationship between the time spent on social media and the loneliness levels of university students in Relaxation and Free Period, Academic Period and Stress-Related Periods. However, it was concluded that there was no statistically significant relationship between the time spent on social media and the loneliness levels of university students in Social Activity Periods and Usage Motivations. It was also determined that university students are high level social media users.

Bu çalışmada, üniversite öğrencilerinin sosyal medyada geçirdikleri zaman ile yalnızlık durumları arasındaki ilişki, SONTUS ölçeği alt faktörlerinden Rahatlama ve Serbest Dönem, Akademik Dönem, Sosyal Aktivite Dönemleri, Strese Bağlı Dönem ve Kullanım Motivasyonları boyutlarıyla araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini 189'u kadın, 239'u erkek olmak üzere toplam 428 gönüllü üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Üniversite öğrencilerinin yalnızlık seviyelerini ölçebilmek UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği, sosyal medyada geçirdikleri zamanı ölçmek için SONTUS Ölçeği ve araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan Kişisel Bilgi Formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 24.00 paket programından yararlanılmıştır. Değişkenler arasındaki ilişkiyi ortaya koymak amacıyla Çoklu Lineer Regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Analizler sonucunda üniversite öğrencilerinin Rahatlama ve Serbest Dönem, Akademik Dönem ve Strese Bağlı Dönemlerde sosyal medyada geçirdikleri zaman ve onların yalnızlık seviyeleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu ancak, Sosyal Aktivite Dönemleri ve Kullanım Motivasyonları ile sosyal medyada geçirdikleri zaman ve yalnızlık seviyeleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığı bulgulanmıştır. Ayrıca üniversite öğrencilerinin yüksek düzeyde sosyal medya kullanıcısı oldukları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
