Aim: This study aims to determine the effect of body image perception and the education given by using different education programs on embarrassment in the patients to whom colonoscopy will be applied. Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted between March 2016 and July 2018 at the Endoscopy Unit of the Health Research and Practice Hospital of Kafkas University. The sample of the study consisted of 135 patients (45 in control group, 45 in the group whom patient training manual was given, 45 in the group who video training was administered) who were selected using random sampling method. The data were collected using pre-test and post-test from the patients under three groups: control, manual and video. Patient Questionnaire Form, Body Image Scale (BIS) and Colonoscopy Embarrassment Scale (CES) were also used to collect the data. The data were evaluated using percentile distribution, mean, chi square, independent t test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation; for assessment of the internal consistency of forms the Cronbach's alpha test was used.Findings: There was no statistical difference in CSS pre-test mean scores between the groups (p>0.05) In the comparison of mean post-test scores of the groups, the CES scores of the video group were lower than those of the other groups and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p<0.05). In the comparison of intra-group CES pre-test and post-test scores, CES scores in all the groups were low and there was a statistically significant difference between the groups (p<0.05). While there was a statistically negative and weak relation between the CES pre-test scores of video and manual groups and body image score, there was no difference in control group. Conclusion: Body image perception has an impact on embarrassment in the patients whom colonoscopy was administered and the mean score of shame decreased through planned educational programs.

Amaç: Bu çalışma, kolonoskopi uygulanacak hastalarda beden imajı algısı ve farklı eğitim programları ile verilen eğitimin utanma duygusu üzerine olan etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapıldı. Materyal ve Metot: Yarı deneysel türde olan çalışma, Kafkas Üniversitesi Sağlık Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi Endoskopi Ünitesi'nde, Mart 2016- Temmuz 2018 tarihleri arasında yürütüldü. Olasılıksız rastlantısal örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 135 (45 hasta kontrol, 45 hasta eğitim kitapçığı, 45 hasta video eğitimi) hasta örnekleme alındı. Veriler kontrol, kitapçık ve video grubu olmak üzere üç farklı grupta yer alan hastalardan ön test son test olarak toplandı. Verilerin toplanmasında ''Hasta Soru Formu, `Beden İmajı Ölçeği` ve ''Kolonoskopi Utanma Ölçeği (KUÖ)` kullanıldı. Veriler yüzdelik dağılım, ortalama, ki kare, bağımsız gruplarda t testi, varyans analizi, Pearson korelasyon ve formların iç tutarlılığı için Cronbach's α testleri ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Gruplar arası KUÖ ön test puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark olmadığı saptandı (p>0.05). Gruplar arası son test puan ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında video grubunda KUÖ puan ortalaması diğer gruplardan düşüktü ve gruplar arası fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlıydı (p<0.05). Grup içi KUÖ ön test-son test puan ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında, üç grupta da KUÖ sontest puan ortalamaları düşüktü ve gruplar arası fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulundu (p<0.05). Beden imajı puan ortalaması ile kitapçık ve video grubunun ön test KUÖ puan ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak negatif yönde zayıf bir ilişki saptanırken, kontrol grubunda saptanmadı. Sonuç: Kolonoskopi uygulanan hastalarda beden imajı algısının utanma duygusunu etkilediği ve uygulanacak planlı eğitim programları ile utanma puan ortalamalarının azaldığı bulundu.
