In this thesis study, it is aimed to increase tolerance to drought stress in early seedling stage of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) by application of Prohexadione-calcium (Pro-Ca). In order to improve tolerance to drought stress during seedling stage, pepper seedlings were applied by Pro-Ca applied in various concentrations (0, 25, 50 or 75 mg.L-1) through soil drench or foliar spray. After Pro-Ca applications, the pepper plants were subjected to drought stress by withholding water for one week. Following stress imposition, in order to determine the effects of the applications, plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, relative leaf chlorophyll content, seedling fresh and dry weights, root fresh and dry weights, tissue relative water content, membrane permeability and visual damage index values were measured or analyzed using 10 plants from each treatment. Among the Pro-Ca doses used in the study, the doses of 50 and 75 mg were the most effective in tolerating the drought stress in pepper in both application methods. The findings of the study showed that Pro-Ca can be used to increase tolerance to drought stress in pepper seedlings without significant loss in seedling quality.

Bu tez çalışmasında Prohexadione-calcium (Pro-Ca) uygulaması ile biberde (Capsicum annuum L.) erken fide döneminde kuraklık stresine karşı toleransının arttırılması hedeflenmiştir. Kuraklık stresine karşı toleransı arttırmak amacıyla biber fideleri erken dönemde iki farklı uygulama metodu (topraktan ve yapraktan) ile farklı dozlarda (0, 25, 50 ve 75 mg.L-1) Pro-Ca ile muamele edilmiş ve sonrasında bir hafta süreyle sulanmayarak kuraklık stresine tabi tutulmuşlardır. Stres sonrasında uygulamaların etkilerini belirlemek amacıyla her uygulamadan 8 bitki üzerinde bitki boyu, gövde çapı, yaprak sayısı, yaprak alanı, göreceli yaprak klorofil içeriği, fide yaş ve kuru ağırlıkları, kök yaş ve kuru ağırlıkları, doku nispi (oransal) su içeriği, membran geçirgenliği ve görsel hasar indeksi değerleri gibi ölçüm ve analizler yapılmıştır. Araştırmada denenen Pro-Ca dozları arasında 50 ve 75 mg.L-1 dozlarının her iki uygulama metodunda da biberde kuraklığa karşı kazanılan toleransta en etkili doz olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular Pro-Ca uygulamasının fide kalitesinde önemli bir kayıp söz konusu olmadan biber fidelerinde kuraklık stresine karşı toleransı arttırmak amacıyla kullanılabileceğini ortaya koymuştur.
