Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of mechanical vibration on root resorption in the upper first premolar teeth with and without application of orthodontic force by Micro-CT.Material and Methods: 20 patients who required maxillary premolar extractions as part of their orthodontic treatment were randomly separated into two groups of five each: group 1, force application group (150 g) and group 2, no force group. A controlled buccal tipping force of 150 grams was applied on both maxillary first premolars of each patient in group 1 for 12 weeks. Using a split-mouth procedure, each patient's maxillary first premolar teeth were randomly assigned either `vibration` or `non-vibration` side in both group 1 and group 2. Buccally directed vibration of 113Hz, using an Oral B HummingBird device with a modified tip, was applied to the maxillary first premolar on the `vibration` side for 10mins/day during the study period. After the force application period, the upper premolars were extracted from all patients. The root surface was scanned with an x-ray desktop micro-tomograph (SkyScan-1172, Belgium). The resorption craters in each cross section were located individually and exported to Fiji (ImageJ), an open source software, which made slice-byslice quantitative volumetric measurements.Results: There was no statistical difference between the vibration and non-vibration sides in terms of root resorption volumes and distribution (p>0.05). There was more resorption by volume in the force application group (group 1) compared to no force group(group 2) (p<0.05).Conclusion:From the results of this study, mechanical vibration was not found to have a beneficial effect in reducing the amount of root resorption, and an application of 150 buccaly directed force caused a significant amount of resorption on which root surface.

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı mekanik vibrasyonun, kuvvetuygulanan veya uygulanmayan üst birinci premolar dişlerdeki kök rezorpsiyonuna etkisini Mikro-BT ile araştırmaktır.Materyal Metot:Ortodontik tedavinin bir parçası olarak üst premolar dişlerinçekimigereken 20 hasta rastgele olarak iki gruba ayrıldı: grup 1, kuvvet uygulanan grup(150 g) ve grup 2, kuvvet uygulanmayan grup. 150 gram kontrollü bukkal devirme kuvveti, grup 1'deki her bir hastanın maksiller birinci premolar dişlerine 12 hafta boyunca uygulandı. Split-mouth prosedürünü kullanarak, hem grup 1 hem de grup 2'de her hastanın maksiller birinci premolar dişleri, `vibrasyon` ve `vibrasyonsuz` taraf olarak rasgele atandı. Çalışma için, `vibrasyon` tarafındaki maksiller birinci premolarlara, 10 dk/gün süre boyuncamodifiye edilmiş uca sahip Oral B HummingBird cihazı kullanılarak 113Hz'lik bukkal yönlü vibrasyon uygulandı. Kuvvet uygulanmayan gruba (grup 2) kıyasla kuvvet uygulanan grupta (grup 1) hacimce daha fazla rezorpsiyon mevcuttu (P<0.05).Sonuç: Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, mekanik vibrasyonun kök rezorpsiyonunu azaltmada yararlı bir etkisinin olmadığı vebukkal yönde 150 g kuvvet uygulamanınkök yüzeyinde önemli miktarda rezorpsiyona neden olduğu bulunmuştur.
