The aim of this study is to investigate how and what extent the Nature of Science (NOS) aspects are included in all science books decided to be taught in elementary schools from decision of Republic of Turkey to present day. It is also aimed to determine how the representations of NOS aspects in the books have changed in the process. The data is obtained from 24 textbooks which are prepared according to the curriculum of 1926, 1948, 1968, 1992, 2000, 2004, 2013, 2018 and which are allowed to be used in schools by Ministry of National Education. Document analysis which is one of the qualitative research methods is used to analyze data in the study. The textbooks were examined in terms of 8 aspects of the NOS as empirical, inferential, tentative, creative, social and cultural structure of science, theory-driven, myth of the scientific method and the nature of theories and laws. The representations of aspects which are found in the textbooks were determined by using the detailed rubric developed by Abd-El-Khalick, Water and Le. As a result of analyzes, it was determined that the aspects of nature of science was insufficient in all the textbooks examined. While in the vast majority of textbooks aspects of NOS as empirical, inferential and tentative are included, creative, theory-driven and social and cultural structure of science aspects are included less and myth of the scientific method and the nature of theories and laws aspects are almost never included. Even though the sub-dimensions of NOS has been observed to be slightly better in the textbooks of the curriculum of the 2000 and beyond, it has been observed that all teaching programs are generally insufficient.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin kuruluşundan günümüze kadar ortaokul 6.,7. ve 8. sınıf seviyesinde okutulmasına karar verilen fen bilimleri ders kitaplarında bilimin doğası boyutlarına ne kadar ve ne şekilde yer verildiğini incelemek ve bu boyutların ders kitaplarında temsil edilme durumlarında süreç içerisinde nasıl değişimler yaşandığını belirlemektir.Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi yönteminin kullanıldığı çalışmada veri kaynaklarını , 1926, 1948, 1968, 1992, 2000, 2004, 2013, 2018 öğretim programına göre hazırlanan ve Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından okullarda kullanılmasına izin verilen toplam 24 ders kitabı oluşturmaktadır. Ders kitapları bilimin doğası kapsamında `deneysel`, `çıkarımsal`, `değişime açık`, `yaratıcılık ve hayal gücü`, `bilimin sosyal ve kültürel yapısı`, `teori temelli`, `bilimsel metot miti` ve `teori ve kanunların doğası olmak` üzere sekiz alt boyut açısından incelenmiştir. Belirtilen alt boyutların temsili açısından ders kitaplarının incelenmesi Abd-El-Khalick, Waters ve Le (2008) tarafından geliştirilen ayrıntılı rubric kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir.Yapılan analizler sonucunda incelenen tüm ders kitaplarında bilimin doğası alt boyutlarının temsil edilme durumlarının yetersiz olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ders kitaplarının büyük çoğunluğunda, bilimin doğasının `deneysel`, `çıkarımsal` ve `değişime açık boyutlarına` yer verilirken, `yaratıcılık ve hayal gücü`, `teori temelli` ve `bilimin sosyal kültürel yapısı` boyutlarına az sayıda ders kitabında, `bilimsel metot miti` ve `teori ve kanunları doğası` boyutlarına ise ders kitaplarında neredeyse hiç yer verilmemiştir. Bilimin doğası alt boyutlarının temsil edilme durumlarının 2000 yılı ve sonrası öğretim programlarına ait ders kitaplarında biraz daha iyi seviyede olduğu belirlense de genel olarak tüm öğretim programlarına ait ders kitaplarının yeterli seviyede olmadığı görülmüştür.
