The architects' work on the improvement and revitalization of urban poor areas can be achieved by involving the members of these communities in the design approach by means of a Participatory Design Process. The Participatory Design Process is a powerful key solution used by the architects that helps to increase the design quality by the integration of the users into the design process by sharing their suggestions, comments, ideas in various ways. This process will clarify the user's needs and preferences and assures that the outcome of the design will be according to their agreement which leads to an improvement in the environment, and satisfaction of the users. This study emphasizes the role of the architects in terms of restoring the vitality of the urban poor areas by the use of Participatory Design Process. Furthermore, the importance and necessity of the use of such approach in urban poor areas is highlighted through the theoretical framework of Participatory Design Process, benchmark examples and a case study about Operation Salam Project in Salé. This project, which works on restructuring an urban poor area, presents a unique example of Participatory Design Approach in Morocco.
