إن إتفاقيات “السلام” الموقعة بين "إسرائيل" ومنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية خلقت سيطرة غير مباشرة على الشعب الفلسطيني في استراتيجية أفضل وأرخص من السيطرة المباشرة للجيش الإسرائيلي. حيث تم نقل المسؤوليات الإدارية والأمنية للسلطة الفلسطينية والأجهزة الأمنية التابعة لها، والتي تم تأسيسها بناءً على هذه الاتفاقيات. ومع أنه من المعروف أكاديمياً، أن السلطة السياسية تقوم بمهام حفظ الأمن والنظام العام والدفاع عن المجتمع أو الكيان السياسي ضد التهديدات الداخلية والخارجية، إلا أن السلطة الفلسطينية ظلت معلقة بين تحقيق الرؤية الإسرائيلية بدورها النيابي عن الإدارة المدنية للحاكم العسكري الإسرائيلي مما يعطي للاحتلال غطاءً شرعياً لمشروعه الاستيطاني ويحسن صورة "إسرائيل" أمام العالم، وبين كونها سلطة "وطنية" تمهد لإقامة دولة فلسطينية مستقلة في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة. ولذلك هناك أغلبية كبيرة من الشعب الفلسطيني أصبحت تؤمن بأن السلطة الفلسطينية تتبنى الرؤية الإسرائيلية وتقوم بدورها كما يستدل عليه من اتفاقيات “السلام” ومن التنسيق المباشر والدائم مع قوات الاحتلال. فالسلطة الفلسطينية فشلت بالقيام بالمهام الوطنية وتكريس دورها الفلسطيني، وهذا يتضح من خلال تجدد المطالبة بحلها من قيادات فلسطينية. مع أن هناك البعض في القيادة السياسية أكد على أن هذا لا يخرج عن دائرة التلويح بتحسين شروط استئناف المفاوضات، خاصةً أن هناك معارضة شديدة لحل السلطة من قبل الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل ودول غربية، والتي هي كلها معنية بوجود السلطة بلا سلطة. أيضا لم يتم طرح البديل المرجعي السياسي الفلسطيني لقيادة الشعب الفلسطيني من خلال الحوار والتنسيق مع الفصائل الفلسطينية. لذلك فإنالتهديد بحل السلطة ما هو إلا محاولة للضغط من أجل استئناف المساعدات المالية الأمريكية للسلطة الفلسطينية واستئناف المفاوضات مع الجانب الإسرائيلي. أضف الى ذلك، إن حل السلطة الفلسطينية وإن كان قراراً سياسياً ونظامياً بيد رئيسها، محمود عباس، إلا أنه لا يستطيع أن يقدم على ذلك لاعتبارات سياسية.

The peace agreements signed by “Israel” and the PLO created indirect control over the Palestinian people in a better and cheaper strategy than the direct control of the Israeli army, which transferred administrative responsibilities and security to the Palestinian Authority and its security apparatus, established based on these agreements. The Palestinian Authority has been pending between the vision of being deputized for the Israeli Authorities in civil administration matters, giving the occupation the cover of being a legitimate entity and improving the image of “Israel” in the world, and of being a national body on the way to establish an independent Palestinian state in the occupied Palestinian territories. Therefore, a large majority of the Palestinian people came to think that the Palestinian Authority has adopted the Israeli vision in the peace agreements. Moreover, the Palestinian Authority operates in direct coordination with the Israeli army to keep a permanent occupation. The Palestinian Authority failed to carry out national tasks, and thus some of its leaders called for its dissolution. However, there have been other leaders who stressed that such calls are only a pressure on “Israel” and the US Administration to resume peace talks with the Israeli side, especially that United States, Israel and Western countries wish to keep the Palestinian Authority functioning to meet the security demand of the Israelis. Moreover, those countries are concerned with the existence of the Palestinian Authority without authority. Therefore, the statements of some leaders of the Palestinian Authority to dissolve it were only a mere threat, an attempt to pressure the US to resume financial aid and to encourage “Israel” to resume negotiations. In addition, though the dissolution of the Palestinian Authority is a political and organizational matter, President Mahmoud Abbas cannot practically dissolve it for political considerations.
