Abstract

In this thesis, the effect of specially designed training programs which utilize the method of creative drama; for improving reading comprehension skills of students who are mild mentally retarded are investigated. For the data analysis, matched pairs pre-test and post-test methods have been applied. The sample group consists of eight students who have the necessary preconditions and who attend to a rehabilitation center in Ankara. Reading Comprehension Skills Education program has been applied to this sample group and the necessary data has been analyzed with SPPS software. The findings of the research suggest that creative drama method has a positive effect for improving reading comprehension skills of the sample group. It is observed that the students were able to understand the texts better after attending the Reading Comprehension Skills Education Program. It is also observed that when students use role play to understand the texts given; they understand and enjoy the texts better, while they remember the content longer.

Bu araştırmada, hafif düzeyde zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlama becerileri üzerinde yaratıcı drama yöntemi ile hazırlanan öğretim programının etkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırmada eşleştirmeli ön test – son test kontrol gruplu desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın deney ve kontrol grubunu, Ankara ili içerisinde bulunan bir rehabilitasyon merkezinde eğitim gören, araştırma için ön koşul becerilerine sahip 8 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Deney grubuna yaratıcı drama yöntemiyle hazırlanan Okuduğunu Anlama Becerileri Öğretim Programı (OABÖP) uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS programı kullanılmıştır.Araştırma sonuçları yaratıcı drama yönteminin okuduğunu anlama becerileri üzerinde etkili olduğunu göstermiştir. Deney grubunun OABÖP'ye katılımları sonrasında metinlere ilişkin okuduğunu anlama sorularını daha iyi kavradıkları gözlemlenmiştir. Bu öğrencilerin bir metni okuduklarında, metnin içeriğini, olaylarını bir role girerek canlandırdıklarında anlayabildikleri ve metinden daha fazla zevk aldıkları ve metnin içeriğini unutmadıkları görülmüştür.
