The aim of this study is to describe the concept of translation competence in translation training, to evaluate the views of the students studying at the faculties of education on translation, translation course, difficulties encountered in translation process and their self-efficacy perceptions. At the same time, the determination of the lecturers' opinions oriented students' attitudes about translation, the difficulties experienced while translating and the determination of translation competence levels of students. Another purpose of this research is to develop a measurement tool that can measure students' perceptions on self-efficacy translation competence. The theoretical and conceptual foundations of the research, which is examining the relationship between the concept of translation competence and the concept of self-efficacy, are based on the fields of translation studies and educational science. In this context, the perceptions of the students studying in the Department of Foreign Language Education on their translation competence self-efficacy was evaluated by the Translation Competence Self-Efficacy Scale developed by taking into consideration the sub-components of the translation competence based on the relevant literature. For this purpose, convergent parallel design from mixed research methods was used in this study. The sample of the study consists of 430 students studying in the departments of German Language Teaching, French Language Teaching and English Language Teaching at Gazi University, Hacettepe University and Marmara University. The participant group of the qualitative part of the research consists of a total of 37 people including 8 faculty members working in the related departments of the mentioned universities and 29 students studying in these universities. The results of the study showed that the students of the English department had higher self-efficacy perceptions than the German and French students in the total dimension of translation competence and sub-competences. Extensive interviews conducted within the scope of the research also support this conclusion. The reason for this is that the students feel inadequate themselves in the foreign language they have learned, they have grammatical, syntactic and methodical inadequacies and these inadequacies are caused by their negative attitude towards translation and lack of efforts to improve themselves.Key Words: Translation studies, translation competence, self-efficacy, foreign language education.

Bu çalışmanın amacı çeviri eğitiminde edinç kavramının betimlenmesi, eğitim fakültelerinin yabancı dil eğitimi bölümlerinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin çeviriye, çeviri dersine, çeviri yaparken karşılaştıkları güçlüklere yönelik görüşlerinin ve çeviri edinci öz yeterlik algılarının değerlendirilmesidir. Aynı zamanda çeviri dersini veren öğretim elemanlarının da öğrencilerin, çeviriye yönelik tutumlarının, çeviri yaparken yaşadıkları güçlüklerin ve çeviri edinci düzeylerinin belirlenmesine yönelik görüşlerinin belirlenmesidir. Bu araştırmanın diğer bir amacı da öğrencilerin çeviri edinci öz yeterlik algılarını ölçebilecek bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. Çeviri edinci kavramı ile öz yeterlik kavramının ilişkisinin de sorgulandığı araştırmanın kuramsal ve kavramsal temelleri çeviribilim ve eğitimbilim alanlarına dayanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda ilgili alanyazına dayanarak belirlediğimiz çeviri edincini oluşturan alt bileşenler dikkate alınarak geliştirilen `Çeviri Becerisi Öz Yeterlik Ölçeği` ile Yabancı Diller Eğitimi Bölümü öğrencilerinin çeviri edinci öz yeterlik algıları değerlendirilmiştir. Belirlenen amaçlar doğrultusunda bu araştırmada karma araştırma yöntemlerinden yakınsayan paralel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Gazi Üniversitesi, Hacettepe Üniversitesi ve Marmara Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Eğitimi Bölümlerine bağlı Almanca Öğretmenliği, Fransızca Öğretmenliği ve İngilizce Öğretmenliği bölümlerinde öğrenim gören toplam 430 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın nitel kısmının katılımcı grubu ise belirtilen üniversitelerde ilgili bölümlerde görev yapmakta olan 8 öğretim elemanı ile bu üniversitelerde öğrenim gören 29 öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 37 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma sonuçları İngilizce bölümü öğrencilerinin Almanca ve Fransızca bölümü öğrencilerine göre çeviri edinci ve alt edinçlerinin toplam boyutunda öz yeterlik algılarının daha fazla olduğunu göstermektedir. Araştırma kapsamında yapılan kapsamlı görüşmeler de bu sonucu desteklemektedir. Bunun nedeni olarak öğrencilerin öğrendikleri yabancı dilde kendilerini yeterli görmedikleri, dil bilgisel, söz dizimsel ve yöntemsel yetersizliklerinin olduğu ve bu yetersizliklerin de çeviriye karşı olumsuz tutum sergilemelerinden ve kendilerini geliştirmeye yönelik çabalarının olmamalarından kaynaklandığı sonuçlarına varılmıştır.Anahtar kelimeler: Çeviribilim, çeviri edinci, öz yeterlik, yabancı diller eğitimi.
