Bu araştırmanın amacı Fen Lisesi, Anadolu Liseleri ve Meslek Lisesi'nde öğrenim gören 9. sınıf öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruların çözüm sürecinde kullandıkları bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejilerin; öğrencilerin soruların çözümü için gerekli olan alan bilgilerinin düzeyine, soruları doğru cevaplayıp cevaplayamamalarına ve soruların zorluk derecesine ilişkin algılarına göre nasıl değiştiğini belirlemektir. Bu kapsamda a. Fen Lisesi, Anadolu Liseleri ve Meslek Lisesi 9. sınıf öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruların çözümü öncesi, çözümü esnası ve çözümü sonrasında kullandıkları bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejilerin sayısı ve çeşidi, b. Fen Lisesi, Anadolu Liseleri ve Meslek Lisesi 9. sınıf öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruları çözerken kullandıkları bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejilerin soruları doğru cevaplayıp cevaplayamamalarına göre nasıl değiştiği, c. Fen Lisesi, Anadolu Liseleri ve Meslek Lisesi 9. sınıf öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruları çözerken kullandıkları bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejilerin öğrencilerin çoktan seçmeli sorularla ilgili alan bilgilerinin düzeyine ve soruların zorluk derecesiyle ilgili görüşlerine göre nasıl değiştiği incelenmiştir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biri olan durum (örnek olay) çalışması kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 2010-2011 Eğitim-Öğretim yılında Ankara ilinde bulunan 1 Fen Lisesi, 4 Anadolu Lisesi, 1 Meslek Lisesi'nin 9. sınıfında öğrenim gören toplam 15 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada Fen Lisesi, Anadolu Liseleri ve Meslek Lisesi'nde öğrenim gören 15 öğrenciye; `Kuvvet ve Hareket, Canlılarda Üreme, Büyüme ve Gelişme, Vücudumuzda Sistemler, Maddenin Yapısı ve Özellikleri, Maddenin Halleri ve Isı, Canlılar ve Enerji İlişkileri` üniteleriyle ilgili olan Fen Bilimleri alanındaki 12 çoktan seçmeli soru çözdürülmüştür. Öğrenciler, soruları çözme sürecinde araştırmacı tarafından gözlenmiş, öğrencilerin kullandıkları bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejilerin belirlenmesi için öğrencilerden sesli düşünme yapmaları istenmiştir. Öğrencilerin soruları çözme sürecinde kullandıkları stratejilerin bilişsel ya da üstbilişsel olup olmadığını belirlemek, soruların zorluk derecesine ilişkin algılarını tespit etmek amacıyla her bir çoktan seçmeli sorunun çözümünden hemen sonra bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejileri kullanma amaçlarına yönelik yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Öğrencilerin çoktan seçmeli soruları çözme süreçlerine ait olan gözlem kayıtları ile öğrencilerle soruların çözümü sonrasında yapılan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen verilerin transkriptleri yapılmıştır. Transkriptleri yapılan veriler analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; a. Araştırmada Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruların niteliğinin; öğrencilerin bu soruların çözümü öncesi, çözümü esnası ve çözümü sonrasında hangi stratejiyi kullandıklarını etkilediği tespit edilmiştir. b. Araştırmada öğrencilerin çoktan seçmeli soruların çözümü esnasındaki süreçte en fazla sayıda, çeşitte bilişsel ve üstbilişsel strateji kullandıkları tespit edilmiştir. c. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruların çözümü sonrasında bilişsel strateji kullanmadıkları tespit edilmiştir. d. Araştırmada Fen Lisesi öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruların çoğunun çözümü sonrasında üstbilişsel strateji kullandıkları; Anadolu Liseleri öğrencilerinin birkaç çoktan seçmeli sorunun çözümü sonrasında üstbilişsel strateji kullandıkları; Meslek Lisesi öğrencilerinin çoktan seçmeli soruların çözümü sonrasında üstbilişsel strateji kullanmadıkları tespit edilmiştir. e. Araştırmada Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli soruları çözerken fazla sayıda, çeşitte bilişsel ve üstbilişsel strateji kullandıkları halde soruları yanlış yanıtlayan Fen Lisesi ve Anadolu Liseleri'nden bazı öğrencilerin kavram yanılgılarının olduğu belirlenmiştir. f. Araştırmada Fen Lisesi ve Anadolu Liseleri öğrencilerinin Fen Bilimleri alanındaki çoktan seçmeli sorulara yönelik alan bilgilerinin düzeyinin; öğrencilerin soruları doğru yanıtlamalarında önemli bir değişken olduğu, soruları çözerken kullandıkları bilişsel ve üstbilişsel stratejilerin de soruların doğru cevabına ulaşmalarında araç olduğu tespit edilmiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler : Bilişsel Stratejiler, Üstbilişsel Stratejiler, Fen Bilimleri Alanındaki Çoktan Seçmeli Sorular, Problem Çözme, Problem Çözme Stratejileri, Okuma Stratejileri, Üstbiliş.

The aim of this study is to determine how the usage of cognitive and metacognitive strategies have changed while multiple choice questions related with the science issues are solved by 9th grade Science, Anatolian and Vocational high school students, according to their level of required subject area knowledge information for solving the questions, whether they answer the questions correctly and their perceptions regarding the difficulty of the questions. Within this context, a. The number and variety of cognitive and metacognitive strategies used by 9th grade Science, Anatolian and Vocational high school students before, in the course of (during) and after solving multiple choice science and technology questions were identified. b. How the cognitive and metacognitive strategies used by 9th grade Science, Anatolian and Vocational high school students have changed according to whether they answer the questions correctly? c. Also how the cognitive and metacognitive strategies used by 9th grade science, anatolian and vocational high school students have changed according to the level of required subject area knowledge and the opinions on the difficulty of multiple-choice questions? Case study, which is one of a qualitative research method was used in this study. A total of 15 students, consisted 9 girls and 7 boys studying at the 9th grade of 1 Science High School, 4 Anatolian High School and 1 Vocational High School found in the province of Ankara, participated in this research at the 2010-2011 academic year. 12 multiple-choice questions which are about `Force and Motion`, `Matter Structure and Properties`, `States of Matter and Heat`, `Reproduction, Growth and Development of Living Beings`, `Living Things and Energy Relations`, `Cell Division and Inheritance`, `Systems in the Body` units were solved by 15 students studying at Science, Anatolian and Vocational High Schools in the course of this study. Students were asked to think aloud to determine cognitive and metacognitive strategies used by them. In addition, the process of solving multiple choice questions by students were observed by the researcher. Semi-structured interviews were conducted immediately after the solving of each multiple-choice Science questions for the purpose of understanding the usage of strategies in order to determine whether the strategies used by the students were cognitive or metacognitive and to identify students' perceptions related to the difficulty degree of questions. The data obtained from the observation records belonging to the question solving process of the students and the semi -structured interviews performed after the solution of the questions were already transcribed. The transcribed data were then analyzed.According to the results of the study; a) The nature of the multiple choice science questions affects which strategy will be used by the students prior to, in the course of and after the solving of this questions.b) In this research, students are determined to be used a large number and variety of cognitive and metacognitive strategies during the multiple choice questions solving process. c) As a result of the research, it has been found that the students did not use any cognitive strategies after the solution of multiple-choice Science questions. d) According to the study, some of the Science High School students used metacognitive strategies after the solutions of multiple-choice Science questions. In addition, some of Anatolian High school students already used metacognitive strategies after the solution of a few number of multiple choice questions. However, Vocational High School students were found not to be used any metacognitive strategies after the solution of multiple-choice questions. e) In this study, it has been determined that in spite of using a high number and variety of cognitive and metacognitive strategies during solving the multiple-choice Science questions, some of the Science High School and Anatolian High School students gave wrong answers due to having the misconceptions. The misconceptions of the students varied in terms of the number and variety of the cognitive and metacognitive strategies used during solving the multiple choice questions. f) It has been determined that the level of the field information of Science High School, Anatolian High School and Vocational High School students' intended for the solution of the multiple choice questions was one of the important variable for the usage of both the number and the variety of cognitive and metacognitive strategies. The cognitive and metacognitive strategies used by the students during solving the questions were determined as vehicles for reaching the correct answer. It has been determined that the ease and difficulty of multiple choice Science questions also changed the number and the type of the strategies used for solving these questions.Key Words: Cognitive Strategies, Metacognitive Strategies, Multiple Choice Science Questions, Problem-Solving Strategies, Reading Strategies, Metacognition.
