In the art of material Shape Memory Alloys are called as a metallic material which has capability of having former shape of itself after thermal procedure. When shape memory alloys are cooled, they take the desired shape. In continuation of this procedure if they are heated they take the former shape. Biomechanical movements can be achieved with SMA actuators designed by using this property of shape memory alloys. Control of SMA actuator can be achieved by letting electric current flow thorough actuator and heating active part of it. Because designed mechanism operates underwater conditions, by cutting of electricity, active part of actuator cools very fast. By these heating and cooling cycles, linear movement can be achieved. Designed SMA actuator groups have been mounted to robot which is designed similar to the form of a real fish. Body part of underwater robot contains remote control part, battery and electronic apparatus which control the SMA actuator groups. By remote control, designed underwater robot can dive and surface, orient to left and right, move forward with tail flapping motion similar to biological motion in underwater conditions.While underwater robot is driven by SMA actuators and it moves, it cannot be detected by passive sonars, because SMA actuators don't cause vibration and echo sound.In this study, design of underwater robot driven by SMA actuators and production of the designed robot have been done. Additionally, it has been proved that mentioned underwater robot can be used by ensuring similar physical properties like a real fish has.

Şekil hafızalı alaşımlar (Shape Memory Alloy-SMA) malzeme biliminde uygun bir ısıl prosedür ile ilk geometrik şekline geri dönebilme yeteneğine sahip metalik malzemeler olarak isimlendirilirler. Şekil hafızalı alaşımlar soğutulduklarında istenilen şekle girmekte, ısıtıldıklarında ilk zamanki formuna geri dönmektedirler. Şekil hafızalı alaşımların bu özelliklerinden yararlanılarak tasarlanan SMA aktuatörlerle, biomekanik hareket eldesi sağlanmaktadır. SMA aktuatörün kontrolü, SMA aktuatöre gelen elektrik enerjisinin aktuatörün aktif kısmını ısıtmasıyla sağlanır. Tasarlanan mekanizma sualtında çalıştığından dolayı enerjinin kesilmesiyle beraber aktuatörün aktif kısmı hızlı olarak soğumakta, bu döngüsel enerjilenme sırasında lineer hareket enerjisi elde edilmektedir.Hazırlanan SMA aktuatör grupları, doğal balık formuna benzer yapıda tasarlanan robot sualtı aracına monte edilmiştir. Sualtı robotunun gövde kısmına uzaktan kumanda, pil ve SMA aktuatör gruplarını kontrol edecek elektronik elemanlar monte edilmiştir.Tamamlanan sualtı robotu uzaktan kumanda ile sualtında biyolojik hareketlere benzer kuyruk çırpma hareketiyle ileri yönlü hareket, sağ sol yönlenme ve dalış çıkış manevraları yapabilmektedir. SMA aktuatörlerle hareket eden sualtı robotu hareket ettiği sırada sualtında ses ve titreşime sebep olmaması nedeniyle pasif sonar tespit sistemleriyle tespit edilmeden hareket edebilmektedir.Bu çalışmada, SMA aktuatörlerle hareket eden sualtı robotunun tasarımı ve üretimi tamamlanmış olup bahse konu sualtı robotunun doğal yapıdaki balığa benzer fiziksel özellikleri sağlayarak işlevsel olarak kullanımı kanıtlanmıştır.
