Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal mortality in low-income countries and the primary cause of nearly one quarter of all maternal deaths globally. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of any intervention used for the prevention and treatment of PPH. Also we determined the risk factors and estimated their effect sizes for pph. BMJ Journals, EBSCOHOST, JSTOR, MD Consult, OVID, Pubmed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library were searched between on 07.06.2012-07.06.2013 using the terms: ''postpartum hemorrhage'', ''prevention of postpartum hemorrhage'', ''management of postpartum hemorrhage'' e.g. Studies were included in the present meta-analysis according to the selection criteria. The Mantel-Haenszel and Peto fixed-effects model were used for summary. Analysis of the data was performed using Excel 2010 and CMA program. 138 articles were included in the meta-analysis. As a result of analysis of the factors that increase the risk of PPH were identified. The identified risk factors: Maternal age 35 and older, BMI is 25,00 kg/m2 and above, nullipara, primiparity, postterm pregnancies, fetal membranes and amniotic fluid complications, maternal hypertension, prolonged labor, induction of labor, assisted delivery, vaginal birth, baby's birth weight is 4000 gr and over. Interventions to prevent PPH: Midwifery care, AMTSL, Oxytocin, misoprostol and other oxytocic. Treatment of PPH: Using NASG, applying arterial embolization and oxytocic agents plus additional intervention. As a result; Women with risk factors for PPH should be advised to give birth in an obstetric unit where more emergency treatment options are available. All women giving birth should be offered AMTSL and uterotonics during the third stage of labour for the prevention of PPH; oxytocin is recommended as the uterotonic drug of choice. If there is persistent bleeding, arterial embolization should be recommended.Key words: PPH, Risk factors, Prevention, Treatment, Meta-analysis.

Postpartum hemoraji (PPH), düşük gelirli ülkelerde anne ölümlerinin önde gelen nedenidir ve dünyada tüm anne ölümlerinin yaklaşık dörtte birinin birincil sebebidir. Bu çalışma PPH önlenmesi ve tedavisi için kullanılan herhangi bir girişimin etkinliğini değerlendirmektedir. Ayrıca PPH risk faktörleri belirlendi ve etki büyüklüğü tahminlerinde bulunuldu. BMJ Journals, EBSCOHOST, JSTOR, MD Consult, OVID, Pubmed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Wiley Online Library veri tabanlarında ''postpartum hemorrhage'', ''prevention of postpartum hemorrhage'', ''management of postpartum hemorrhage'' vb. terimler kullanarak 07.06.2012-07.06.2013 tarihleri arasında tarama yapıldı. Meta-analize seçim kriterlerine göre çalışmalar dahil edildi. Verilerin özetlenmesinde sabit etkiler modeli, Mantel-Haenszel ve Peto yöntemi kullanıldı. Verilerin analizi Excel 2010 ve CMA programı kullanılarak gerçekleştirildi. 138 araştırma meta-analize dahil edildi. Analiz sonucunda PPH riskini arttıran faktörler belirlendi. Belirlenen risk faktörleri: Anne yaşının ≥35, BKİ ≥25,00 kg/m2 olması, nulliparlık, primiparlık, postterm gebelik, fetal zarlar ve amniyon sıvısı komplikasyonları, annede hipertansiyon olması, uzamış doğum, indüklenmiş doğum, müdahaleli doğum, vajinal doğum yapması ve bebeğin doğum ağırlığının ≥4000 gr olmasıdır. PPH önleyici girişimler: Ebelik bakımı, doğumun üçüncü evresinin aktif yönetimi, oksitosin, misopristol ve diğer oksitosiklerin kullanımı olarak belirlendi. PPH tedavisine yönelik girişimler: NASG uygulanması, oksitosik ajanlara ilave girişimler ve arter embolizasyonu yapılması olarak saptandı. Sonuç olarak; PPH risk faktörleri olan kadınların acil girişim seçenekleri bulunan bir birimde doğum yapmaları önerilir. Doğum yapan tüm kadınlarda doğumun üçüncü evresinin aktif yönetimi ve doğumun üçüncü evresinde PPH önlemek için oksitosiklerin kullanımı; uterotonik ilaç olarak oksitosin önerilir.
