The effects of system size on performance was analyzed via Constructal Law in this thesis. The effects of size have been examined in social organizations, swimmers and fliers, and ships and airplanes. Relationships that have been found between the empirical data and the theoretical results are shown. When looking at the results, a high correlation is observed between the theoretical approach and the empirical data. The first chapter explains the theory of Constructal Law through its history, principles, and the mathematical models that have been used in the analyses. The second chapter explains the physical bases of social organization. River flows and hot water transportation, which is one of humans' most important needs, have been modeled in order to explain the formation of organization. By gathering around the phenomenon of social organization, its seen that it has a great importance on diminishing fuel waste. In addition, due to the growth of system size and the increase of individuals in social organization, hierarchy is seen to occur. One of the ways to improve these non-uniform distributions has been shown to be the local innovations performed on designs.The third chapter introduces an answer to the unexplained part in the size-speed relationship that Constructal Theory presents and that depend on the size of animals and vehicles. In addition, the reason why the fastest living animals and vehicles are not biggest has also been shown in the detailed analyses. This case includes the effects of acceleration and cruise parts, the two components of movement. The fact that aircraft were seen to not conform to the earlier theoretical approach, which is based on mass - speed, has allowed for this deviation to be amended. Additionally, why the fastest animal fliers are 103 times smaller than the fastest animal swimmers has been explained theoretically. The fourth chapter shows the relationship of airplanes' and ships' size with their performance. The approach that exists according to the Constructal Law has been compared with the data of 100,000 ships as obtained from the Marine Traffic website. A high correlation has been seen between the empirical data and the theoretical approach. Also, the relationship between power spent and carrying capacity of ship (deadweight tonnage) has been shown for six different ship types (bulk carrier, cargo, container, passenger ship, fishing ship, and tanker). Thus, correlation is shown for the results present in the Constructal Theory with as large a data cloud. The final chapter of the thesis summarizes the results.

Yapısal gelişim teorisi yardımıyla sistem boyutlarının performans üzerine etkilerinin araştırıldığı bu tezde boyutun etkileri sosyal organizasyonlarda, yüzen ve uçan canlılarda, gemi ve uçaklarda incelenmiştir. Çalışma boyunca, bu incelemelerde ulaşılan teorik sonuçlar ile ampirik veriler arasındaki ilişki gösterilmeye çalışılmıştır. Sonuçlara bakıldığında ise teorik yaklaşım ile ampirik değerler arasında yüksek derecede bir uyum olduğu görülmüştür.Tezin birinci bölümünde yapısal gelişim teorisinin tarihçesi, prensipleri ve analizlerde kullanılan matematik açıklanmıştır. İkinci bölümde ise sosyal organizasyonu oluşturan fiziksel temeller açıklanmıştır. Organizasyonun oluşumunu açıklamak için nehir akışı ve insanlar için çok büyük öneme sahip ihtiyaçlardan birisi olan sıcak suyun taşınması modellenmiştir. Sosyal organizasyon olgusunun bir araya gelerek yakıt israfının azalmasına büyük bir etki yaptığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca sosyal organizasyondaki bireylerin artmasıyla sistem boyutları büyüdüğünden kademeli yapının tabii olarak gerçekleştiği görülmüştür. Homojen olmayan bu dağılımları iyileştirmenin yollarından birinin ise tasarımlarda yapılacak lokal iyileştirmeler olduğu gösterilmiştir.Tezin üçüncü bölümünde canlıların ve araçların boyutuna bağlı olarak yapısal gelişim teorisi tarafından sunulan boyut-hız ilişkisinde açıklanmamış kısımlara cevap bulunmuştur. Ayrıca boyut-hız teorisine göre neden en hızlı canlıların en büyük kütleye sahip olmadığı konusu hareketin iki bileşeni (ivmelenme ve seyir) yardımıyla analiz edilmiştir. Kütleye bağlı olarak daha önce bulunan teorik yaklaşıma uçakların uymadığı görülmüş olup bu sapmanın düzeltilmesi sağlanmıştır. Ayrıca en hızlı uçanların en hızlı yüzenlerden bin kat daha küçük olduğu gerçeği teorik olarak açıklanmıştır. Dördüncü bölümde uçak ve gemilerin boyut performans ilişkisi gösterilmiştir. Yapısal gelişim teorisinden yola çıkarak geliştirilen yaklaşım Marine Traffic sitesinden elde edilen 100.000 adet gemi verisiyle mukayese edilmiştir. Teorik yaklaşımla ampirik veriler arasında güçlü bir ilişki olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca 6 farklı gemi türü için (Dökme Yük Gemisi, Kargo, Konteyner, Yolcu Gemisi, Balıkçı Gemisi ve Tanker) taşıma kapasitesiyle harcanan güç arasındaki ilişkiler gösterilmiştir. Böylelikle bu kadar büyük bir veri bulutuyla yapısal gelişim teorisinden bulunan sonuçların uyumu kanıtlanmıştır. Tezin son kısmında ise elde edilen sonuçlar özetlenmiştir.
