The aim of this study was to determine possible genotoxic effects of esmeron, which is used as an anesthesia agent in general anesthesia, by using sister chromatid exchange (SCEs), chromosome aberration (CAs) and micronucleus (MN) tests in human peripheral lymphocytes.In the present study, the human peripheral lymphocytes were treated with three concentrations of esmeron (60, 80, 100 µg/ml) for 24 and 48 hours treatment periods. Esmeron increased the frequency of CAs but did not increase the frequency of SCEs. Esmeron didn?t decrease the proliferation index (PI) and mitotic index (MI). And also esmeron stimulated the frequency of MN however, did not decrease the nuclear division index (NDI).

Bu çalışma, genel anestezide kas gevşetici olarak kullanılan Esmeron'un genotoksik etkiye sahip olup olmadığını insan periferal lenfositlerinde in vitro kardeş kromatid değişimi, kromozom aberasyonu ve mikronukleus testleri ile araştırmak amacıyla yürütülmüştür.Bu çalışmada insan periferal lenfositleri 60, 80, 100 µg/ml konsantrasyondaki esmeron ile 24 ve 48 saat muamele edilmiştir. Esmeron 24 ve 48 saatlik muamelelerde KKD'yi uyarmadığı halde KA'yı uyarmıştır. Proliferasyon indeksi (PI) ve Mitotik indeks'i (MI) düşürmemiştir. Esmeron mikronukleus oluşumunu uyarmış, fakat nukleus bölünme indeksini (NBI) düşürmemiştir.
