Out -of- hospital cardiac arrest is the worldwide accepted major cause of death. The chance of survival without neurologic deficit from cardiopulmonary arrest, which is the most critical period between life and death, can be increased only by timely interventions. Early defibrilation plays major role in diagnosis, treatment and survival.Purpose: We aimed to evaluate automated external defibrilator using skills and knowledge of lay volunteers, from different educational status, with basic life support and AED training and additionally, to create awareness for the presence and use of automated external defibrilators.Method: Between the dates of 15.03.2017 and 15.04.2017, Basic life support and AED training provided to 3 different groups, 30 people each, volunteered laypersons of primary education, high school and university graduates. After training, practice assessment test is used to evaluate the efficiency of laypersons. NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007 program was used in the Analyses. Average, standard deviation, median, lowest, highest, ratio and frequency values were used in the descriptive statistics of the data. Mann-Whitney U Test was used for the analysis of quantitative data. Pearson Ki-Kare testi, Fisher-Freeman-Halton testi ve Fisher's Test was used for the analysis of qualitative measurement. Statistically significant p<0.05.Conclusion: With improving technology of AEDs, early defibrilation by layperson, in out of hospital cardiac arrest, become possible until healtcare professionals arrives and chance of survival of patients increases. We observed that knowledge, awareness and AED using skills of lay volunteers improved after one hour theoretical and one hour practical training.
