The aim of this study is to determine the effects of context-based learning in student?s academic achievements, attitudes towards on biology course and student?s scientific process skill.This study was applied to two groups? first grade students that include 53 students in control group and 41 students in experimental group in department of elementary learning education in Bayburt Education Faculty of Atatürk University during 2007-2008 academic period. While courses designed on context based approach were being implemented on experimental group, control group carried on their biology courses designed on traditional learning approach. Mixed research design which consists of interview form with open-close ended questions and quasi-experimental design with pre-post test control group was employed in this study. Achievements test prepared for each subjects and scientific process skill test and attitude test towards biology courses were used as means of collecting quantitative data, interview form which includes open-close ended questions were implemented as means of collecting qualitative data. In analysis of obtained data was utilized repeated measurements MANOVA in SPSS 10.00 software.The results of analysis shows that there is a meaningful difference between context based learning and traditional learning on student?s achievement and student?s attitudes towards biology and student?s scientific process skill. It indicates that effects of context based learning approach caused statistically more significant success than traditional learning approach for each dependent variable. Students following context based courses demonstrated more interest in biology, expressed more enjoyment in courses and increase of students attitude towards biology, increased capability of student?s scientific process still test than students following courses based on traditional learning. The results of interview form which was implemented on experimental group in order to support obtained findings are in favor of our study.

Bu çalışmanın amacı yaşam temelli öğrenmenin öğrencilerin biyoloji derslerindeki başarılarına, biyoloji dersine olan tutumlarına ve bilimsel işlem becerilerine karşı etkisini tespit etmektir.Araştırma, 2007?2008 eğitim öğretim yılında Atatürk Üniversitesi Bayburt Eğitim Fakültesi Sınıf öğretmenliği 1. sınıf öğrencilerinden 41 kişi deney, 53 kişi kontrol grubu olmak üzere iki grup üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Deney grubunda, yaşam temelli öğrenme ilkelerine göre hazırlanmış işleniş planı uygulanırken, kontrol grubu geleneksel öğrenme ile biyoloji derslerine devam etmiştir. Araştırmada ön test son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel araştırma deseni ve açık- kapalı uçlu sorulardan oluşan görüşme formunun birleştirilmesiyle elde edilen karma desen kullanılmıştır. Nicel veri toplama aracı olarak her bir konu için hazırlanmış başarı testleri, bilimsel işlem beceri testi ve biyolojiye karşı tutum ölçeği kullanılırken; nitel veri toplama aracı olarak açık ve kapalı uçlu sorulardan oluşan bir test uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde SPSS 10.00 paket programında ki tekrarlanmış ölçümler MANOVA kullanılmıştır.Yapılan analizler sonucu yaşam temelli öğrenme ile geleneksel öğrenme arasında öğrencilerin başarıları, biyolojiye karşı tutumları ve bilimsel işlem becerileri bağlamında anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Yaşam temelli öğretim yönteminin etkisinin geleneksel öğretim yöntemine göre her bir bağımlı değişken için istatistiksel olarak önemli derecede daha fazla başarı artışına sebep olduğu bulunmuştur. Yaşam temelli dersleri takip eden öğrencilerin geleneksel dersi takip eden öğrencilere göre daha fazla biyolojiye karşı olumlu baktıkları, derslerden daha fazla hoşlandıkları, biyolojiye olan tutumlarının ve bilimsel işlem becerilerinin daha fazla arttığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Elde edilen bulguları desteklemek amacıyla deney grubu öğrencilerine yapılan görüşme formunun sonuçları da çalışmamız lehinedir.
