Epics are uniquely important in terms of showing the history of nations, great events and cultural values, as well as being literary works belonging to the communities they belong to, which contain all kinds of material and spiritual assets of the society. Undoubtedly, their mastery in the use of time comes first among the values that can raise nations to the level of advanced civilizations. Turkish Epics are also among the works that describe the use of this time in the most beautiful way. It is evident that the Turkish Nation, especially the sensibilities of leisure time in epics, the developmental effect of leisure time on the individual and the society, and that they attribute sacredness to leisure use from time to time. One of the most important building blocks that can be evaluated within the cultural and historical riches of a nation, `leisure activities` are of great importance in Turkish Epics, including birth and death, which are considered as indispensable elements of life, pre-Islamic to post-Islamic period. He was able to find himself in every moment of life. Since the day of its existence, the Turkish Nation has taken into consideration the interests of the individual and the society and has taken into consideration the benefit factor. As a living proof of how this element manifests and what stages it goes through, Turkish Epics tell many things to today's society. For example, leisure activities, which manifest themselves as recreation in the Epic of Creation, have been able to show themselves in harmony with places such as gaining power, being a source of pride, proving themselves to the society, having fun and learning, and subsequently became one of the essential elements of Turkish culture. he continued to present himself in the modern societies of the 21st century. Consequently, when the recreation activities that took place in the pre-Islamic period are examined, it is seen that these activities are mostly body-enhancing activities and are encouraged by the society, but there is no change in the sports recreation activities in the Turkish Epics that developed in the post-Islamic period, but blessing these activities through new religion (Islam). it seems that it was attributed. Culturally, the activities celebrated as spring holidays (Nevruz and Hıdırellez) continued to live under the guise of Islam due to the practices of the old religion and continued to live as a part of the culture even in the 21st century. The main purpose of this study is to determine the recreation activities from the Turkish Epics, which do not have many study areas in the field of recreation yet, and to determine how they can be used in the recreation area, and this is the first study to be carried out in depth in this field.

Destanlar, bağlı bulundukları toplumlara ait olan, içerisinde toplumun her türlü maddi ve manevi varlığını barındıran edebi eserler olmalarının yanında, milletlerin tarihini, başından geçen büyük olayları ve kültürel değerleri göstermeleri bakımından eşsiz bir öneme sahiptirler. Milletleri gelişmiş medeniyetler seviyesine çıkarabilen değerlerin başında da şüphesiz ki zaman kullanımında ki ustalıkları gelir. Türk Destanları da bu zaman kullanımının en güzel biçimde anlatıldığı eserlerdendir. Türk Milleti'nin özellikle destanlar içerisinde ki boş zaman kullanımında ki hassasiyetleri, boş zamanların birey ve toplum üzerindeki geliştirici etkisini keşfetmeleri ve boş zaman kullanımlarına zaman zaman kutsiyet atfetmeleri bunun bir kanıtıdır. Bir milletin kültürel ve tarihsel zenginlikleri içerisinde değerlendirilebilen en önemli yapı taşlarından biri olan ''boş zaman faaliyetleri'' Türk Destanları içerisinde büyük öneme sahip olup, İslamiyet öncesinden İslamiyet sonrası döneme dek varlığını sürdürmüş, yaşamın vazgeçilmez unsurlarından olarak kabul edilen doğum ve ölüm de dahil olmak üzere hayatın her anında kendisine yer bulabilmiştir. Türk Milleti var olduğu günden bu yana boş zaman değerlendirmesinde birey ve toplumun çıkarlarını gözetmiş, fayda unsurunu göz önünde bulundurmuştur. Bu unsurun nasıl tezahür ettiğinin, hangi aşamalardan geçtiğinin yaşayan bir kanıtı olarak ise Türk Destanları bugünün toplumuna birçok şey anlatır. Örneğin Yaratılış Destanı'nda kendini dinlence şeklinde gösteren boş zaman faaliyetleri, yer yer güç kazanmak, övünç kaynağı olmak, topluma kendini ispat etmek, eğlenmek, öğrenmek gibi şekillerle bir ahenk içinde kendini tüm Türk Destanları içerisinde gösterebilmiştir ve akabinde Türk kültürünün asli unsurlarından biri haline gelip kendisi 21. yüz yılın modern toplumlarında göstermeye devam etmiştir. Sonuç olarak İslamiyet öncesi dönemde oluşum gösteren rekreasyon faaliyetlerine bakıldığında bu faaliyetlerin çoğunlukla beden gücünün arttırıcı faaliyetler olduğu ve toplum tarafından teşvik edildiği görülmekle birlikte İslamiyet sonrası dönemde gelişim gösteren Türk Destanları içerisinde ki sportif rekreasyon faaliyetlerinde bir değişim görülmemekle birlikte yeni din (İslamiyet) aracılığıyla bu faaliyetlere kutsiyet atfedildiği görülmektedir. Kültürel anlamda ise bahar bayramları (Nevruz ve Hıdırellez) olarak kutlanan faaliyetler İslam dinine geçişle birlikte, içerisinde ki eski dine ait uygulamalardan ötürü kendisini İslam kisvesi altına sokarak yaşamını sürdürmüş ve 21. Yüz yıl 'da bile kültürün bir parçası şeklinde yaşatılmaya devam edilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı henüz rekreasyon alanında pek fazla çalışma alanına sahip olmayan Türk Destanlarının içerisinden rekreasyon faaliyetlerinin tespit edilip, rekreasyon alanı içerisinde nasıl kullanılabileceğinin saptanmasına ve bu alanda derinlemesine gerçekleştirilen ilk çalışma olmasıdır.
