Static charges accumulated on the packaging of electronic devices such as hard disks and motherboards can cause short circuits. Most of the polymers used in the packaging industry are electrically insulating. Relatively less polar molecular structure of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which has many applications leads hydrophobicity as well as the accumulation of static charges on PET-based products and packaging materials.Within the scope of the thesis, low relative humidity dependent antistatic copolymers were synthesized specifically for PET film applications. These polyether block ester-based copolymers contain hydrophilic and polar segments. Among these copolymers, the most suitable one was chosen (BK7) considering the surface resistance and processability and then this copolymer was modified by quaternization and ionic liquid doping. Characterization of synthesized copolymers was carried out by FTIR, DSC, XRD, XRF and TGA methods. As a result of these analyses, it was concluded that the synthesis of copolymers was carried out successfully and that the synthesized copolymers had sufficient thermal properties to be used in the PET extrusion application. PET-based masterbatches were then produced with these copolymers (BK7, BK7-IL, and BK7-Q) by using a twin-screw extruder. The characterizations of these masterbatches were performed by the filter pressure and melt flow index methods.PET films with different concentrations of copolymers were produced by using a single screw cast film extruder after the preparation of masterbatches. The antistatic effect of the films containing block copolymer-based antistatic additives was investigated by measuring the surface resistivity. These films were then kept under certain conditions in the air conditioning cabinet and the changes in surface resistance were monitored depending on humidity and temperature. The surface characterization of the antistatic packaging films was performed by SEM and contact angle measurements, and the optical properties of the films were examined with a spectrophotometer by measuring the haziness and light transmission. Breaking force and elongation at break measurements of the films were also conducted to determine the mechanical properties. Also, carbon-based additives were investigated as an alternative to the block copolymer-based antistatic films prepared in the thesis. In this respect, PET films were produced using commercial multi-walled carbon nanotubes and compared with antistatic copolymer-based films in terms of surface resistivity and morphology.It was determined that the surface resistivity of the antistatic PET films was around 109–1010 Ω/sq and the addition of the antistatic masterbatches into neat PET matrix resulted in almost 106 times enhancement in surface resistivity. Among all PET antistatic films, it was found that PEBE-IL and ionic liquid addition to neat PET led to a lower crystallization degree, surface resistivity, contact angle, and breaking force. For example, PET composite films with 15 wt% BK7-IL had a surface resistivity of 6.9 x 109 ohm/sq and a contact angle value of 62.1º. In addition, it was pointed out that antistatic PET composites films with high optical transparency were prepared with the addition of 5 wt% ionic liquid. This transparent antistatic film (PET/IL) showed a surface resistivity value of 9.6 x 109 ohm/sq with a haziness value of only 2.2%. According to the data obtained from the thermal analyses, it was concluded that all antistatic films were thermally stable up to ~ 350 ºC. Thermal decomposition temperatures of 10 wt% BK7-IL doped antistatic film and neat PET film were calculated as 396 ºC and 415 ºC, respectively. Besides, the surface resistivity value of the PET film containing 2.25 wt% multi-walled carbon nanotube in the final product was measured as 7 x 106 ohm/sq. Although carbon nanotube-based antistatic films had higher conductivity compared to copolymer-based PET films, they have some disadvantages such as black and matt appearance, difficult dispersion of the nanotubes in the PET matrix and surface roughness. As a result, it has been determined that antistatic additives prepared in this thesis have the potential to be used as antistatic packaging materials in terms of thermal, antistatic, optical and mechanical properties.Keywords: Antistatic, Polyether block ester, Copolymer, Ionic Liquid.

Sabit diskler ve anakartlar gibi elektronik cihazların ambalajları üzerinde biriken statik yükler kısa devre oluşumu gibi ciddi problemlere neden olabilmektedirler. Ambalaj endüstrisinde kullanılan polimerlerin büyük çoğunluğu elektriksel olarak yalıtkandır. Pek çok uygulama alanına sahip olan polietilen tereftalatın (PET) nispeten daha az polar moleküler yapısı, hidrofobikliğe neden olmasının yanı sıra PET esaslı ürün ve ambalaj malzemelerinin üzerinde statik yüklerin birikmesine de sebep olmaktadır.Tez çalışması kapsamında, PET film uygulamalarında kullanılmak üzere düşük bağıl nem ortamında da antistatik etki gösterebilen kopolimerler sentezlenmiştir. Polieter blok ester esaslı olan bu kopolimerlerin yapısında polar ve hidrofilik segmentler bulunmaktadır. Tez çalışmasında, hazırlanan kopolimerler içerisinden yüzey direnci ve işlenebilirliği açısından en uygun olanı seçilmiş olup (BK7), bu kopolimer kuaternizasyon ve iyonik sıvı katkılama yöntemleri ile modifiye edilmiştir. Sentezlenen kopolimerlerin karakterizasyonu FTIR, DSC, XRF, XRD ve TGA yöntemleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu analizler neticesinde kopolimer sentezinin başarı ile gerçekleştiği ve sentezlenen kopolimerlerin PET ekstüzyon uygulamasında kullanılabilmek için yeterli ısıl özelliklere sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Daha sonra bu kopolimerler (BK7, BK7-IL ve BK7-Q) ile çift vidalı ekstrüder kullanılarak PET matrisli masterbatchler üretilmiştir. Bu masterbatchlerin karakterizasyonları ise filtre basıncı ve eriyik akış endeksi yöntemleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir.Masterbatchlerin hazırlanmasının ardından tek vidalı dökme film ekstrüderi ile farklı konsantrasyonlarda kopolimerler içeren PET filmler üretilmiştir. Blok kopolimer esaslı antistatik katkı içeren bu filmlerin yüzey direnci ölçülerek antistatik özellikleri incelenmiştir. Bu filmler daha sonra iklimlendirme kabininde belirli koşullarda bekletilerek nem ve sıcaklığa bağlı yüzey dirençlerindeki değişimler takip edilmiştir. Hazırlanan antistatik filmlerin yüzey karakterizasyonu SEM ve temas açısı ölçümüyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Spektrofotometre yardımıyla pusluluk ve ışık geçirgenliği ölçümleri yapılarak filmlerin optik özellikleri incelenmiş ve mekanik özelliklerin belirlenmesi amacıyla da hazırlanan bu filmlerin kopma uzaması ve kopma kuvveti analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tezde hazırlanan blok kopolimer esaslı antistatik filmlere alternatif olarak karbon esaslı katkılar da denenmiştir. Bu kapsamda, ticari çok duvarlı karbon nanotüpler kullanılarak PET filmler üretilmiş ve bu filmler yüzey direnci ve morfolojisi açısından antistatik kopolimer esaslı filmler ile karşılaştırılmıştır.Hazırlanan antistatik filmlerden gerçekleştirilen ölçümler sonucunda kopolimer katkılı filmlerin yüzey direnci değerlerinin 109–1010 Ω/sq arasında olduğu belirlenmiş ve katkılama sayesinde, PET filmin yüzey direnci değerinin yaklaşık 106 kat iyileştiği gözlemlenmiştir. Hazırlanan filmler içerisinden BK7-IL ve iyonik sıvı katkılı filmlerin diğer filmlere göre yüzey direnci, kristalinite, temas açısı ve kopma kuvveti değerlerinin daha düşük olduğu belirlenmiştir. Örneğin, ağırlıkça yüzde 15 oranında BK7-IL kopolimeri katkılı PET filmin yüzey direnci 6,9 x 109 ohm/sq ve temas açısı değeri ise 62,1º olarak ölçülmüştür. Buna ilave olarak, ağırlıkça %5 oranında iyonik sıvı ile üretilen filmlerin yüksek ışık geçirgenliği ve şeffaflığa sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Hazırlanan %5 iyonik sıvı katkılı PET filmin (PET/IL) yüzey direnci değeri 9,6 x 109 ohm/sq olarak ölçülürken pusluluk değeri ise sadece %2,2 olarak belirlenmiştir. Isıl analizlerden elde edilen verilere göre tüm antistatik filmlerin ~350 ºC'ye kadar ısıl olarak stabil olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. %10 oranında BK7-IL katkılı antistatik film ile katkısız PET filmin ısıl bozunma sıcaklıkları sırasıyla 396 ºC ve 415 ºC olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bunun yanında, son üründe ağırlıkça %2,25 oranında çok duvarlı karbon nanotüp içeren PET filmin yüzey direnci değeri 7 x 106 ohm/sq olarak ölçülmüştür. Çok duvarlı karbon nanotüp içeren antistatik filmler kopolimer içeren PET filmlere göre daha yüksek iletkenliğe sahip olmasına rağmen görünümlerinin siyah ve mat olması, nanotüplerin PET matris içerisinde dispersiyonunun zor ve filmin yüzeyinin pürüzlü olması gibi bazı dezavantajları bulunmaktadır.Sonuç olarak, tez çalışmasında sentezlenen katkılar ile üretilen PET matrisli kompozit filmlerin ısıl, antistatik, optik ve mekanik özellikler bakımından antistatik ambalaj filmi olarak kullanılabilme potansiyeline sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir.Anahtar kelimeler: Antistatik, Polieter blok ester, Kopolimer, İyonik Sıvı.
