It is widely accepted that sovereign rating might be included among the factors that are thought to be influential in the export performance of firms and it can also be evaluated among the uncontrollable factors. The fact that the sovereign ratings given to Turkey by the three important credit rating agencies – Standard Poor's, Moody's and Fitch – might be attached to the factors that affect the export performance of a business is regarded to be one of the major subject matters. The main goal of the study is to empirically analyze the impact of sovereign rating on the export performance of firms only by focusing on the sovereign ratings among several factors that are influential on the export performance of companies. In the study, a conceptual model was built by regarding Export Performance Scale (EXPERF) as dependent variable and sovereign ratings as independent variable. Within the framework of the conceptual model, in the first step the relation between the sovereign ratings and export performance of firms regarding the years between 1993 and 2016 is scrutinized with the analysis of the panel unit root tests by making use of secondary data. In the second step of the study, it can be seen that the main scope of the collected primary data consists of ISO 500: 2016 firms. The export performance measurement of these firms has been carried out with a questionnaire form which is based upon an EXPERF scale. The questionnaire form was answered via e-mail and face-to-face questionnaire method by the executives who admitted participating in the survey. In this survey, data related to how executives perceive the export performance both in 2013 when Turkey's sovereign rating was upgraded to an investible level for the first time and in 2016 when sovereign rating was downgraded has been collected. In the survey, where judgement (or purposive) sampling method was used, answers from 306 company executives were received. As a result of the conducted panel data analysis, the tested H1 hypothesis, which presupposes the notion that sovereign ratings given by credit rating agencies have an impact on the export performance of firms, was supported as Turkey's sovereign rating influences the export performance of firms. According to the field research results, H2 hypothesis, which presupposes the notion that there is a difference between the sovereign rating change and export performance of firms, was supported as the export performances of firms differ in line with the EXPERF scale that has evaluated the upgrading of sovereign rating in 2013 and the downgrading of sovereign rating in 2016.

İşletmelerin ihracat performansında etkisi olduğu düşünülen faktörler içerisinde ülke kredi notunun da olabileceği ve kontrol edilemeyen faktörler arasında değerlendirilebileceği söylenebilir. Türkiye'ye üç büyük kredi derecelendirme kuruluşu olan Standard&Poor's, Moody's ve Fitch'in verdikleri ülke kredi notunun işletmelerin ihracat performansını etkileyen faktörler içerisine eklenebilmesi önemli konulardan birisi olarak açıklanmaktadır. Çalışmanın temel amacı, işletmelerin ihracat performansı üzerinde etkili olan birçok unsur arasından sadece ülke kredi notuna odaklanılarak, işletmelerin ihracat performansına ülke kredi notunun etkisini ampirik olarak araştırmaktır. Çalışmada ihracat performansı ölçeği-EXPERF (Export Performance Scale) bağımlı değişken, ülke kredi notları bağımsız değişken olarak kavramsal bir model geliştirilmiştir. Modele ilişkin olarak, ilk aşamada ikincil verilerden faydalanılarak panel birim kök testleri analizi ile 1993-2016 yıllarını kapsayan ülke kredi notu ve işletmelerin ihracat performansı arasındaki ilişki incelenmektedir. Araştırmanın ikinci aşamasında ise toplanan birincil verilerin ana kütlesini, 2016 yılı İSO 500 işletmeleri oluşturmaktadır. Bu işletmelerin ihracat performansının ölçümünü EXPERF ölçeğine dayanılarak hazırlanan anket formunun e-posta ve yüzyüze anket yöntemi ile araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden yöneticilerin, Türkiye'nin ülke kredi notunun ilk defa yatırım yapılabilir seviyeye çıkarıldığı 2013 yılı ve kredi notunun düşürüldüğü 2016 yılı ihracat performansını algılamalarına ilişkin verilerin toplanması oluşturmaktadır. Kasti (yargısal) örnekleme yönteminin kullanıldığı araştırmada 306 işletme yöneticisinden cevap alınmıştır. Yapılan panel veri analizi sonucu `derecelendirme kuruluşlarının verdikleri ülke kredi notunun işletmelerin ihracat performansına etkisi vardır` olarak belirlenen H1 hipotezi desteklenmekte olup, Türkiye ülke kredi notu, işletmelerin ihracat performanslarını etkilemektedir. Alan araştırması sonuçlarına göre, `ülke kredi notunun değişimi ile işletmelerin ihracat performansları arasında fark vardır` H2 hipotezi, 2013 yılında ülke kredi notunun artması ile 2016 yılında ülke kredi notunun düşürülmesini ölçen EXPERF ölçeğine göre, işletmelerin ihracat performansları farklılık gösterdiğinden desteklenmiştir.
