The Canaanites, are a Western Semitic origin people that came to the Palestinian geography at the beginning of the III. Millennium B.C. The Land of Canaan is a name given to the territory covering todays Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, a part of Jordan and part of Syria including Damascus. But according to the written texts, we can easily say that Canaanite culture shows its influence up to the cities of Ugarit and Ebla in Syria. Our information about Canaanites and Land of Canaan are based on archives such as Ebla, Mari and Ugarit in the Syrian-Canaan region and Ancient Egypt Egyptian documents. Ancient Egypt is one of the most important sources providing information about Syria-Canaan.The Syro-Canaan region is one of the regions that have attracted the attention of various peoples throughout the history. Ancient peoples, who wanted to keep this region in their hands, fought a relentless struggle against each other. Our research subject is M.Ö. II. Large local kingdoms such as Ebla, Mari, Ugarit, Yamhad, Qatna and Amurru were identified in the Syrian-Canaan geography in the millennium. Hittite, Egypt and Mitanni states that fought wars against each other in order to dominate the region in this era.The relationship of Syro-Canaan with Egypt can be traced back to very old times. However, this relationship was a commercial nature. The aim of establish a Egyptian sovereignty over the region can be started with during the reign of Ahmose. However, until the Hittite Kingdom recovered its power, the Mitannian state was the biggest obstacle to the Egypt. With the region of Šuppiluliuma, Hittites also wanted to secure the region for themselves.In our study, we try to clarify the meaning of the name Canaan, Canaanite People and the Land of Canaan. We also examine the local kingdoms established in the Syro-Canaan region and political history of Egypt and the Hittites over the region.
Kenanlılar, M.Ö. III. binyılın başlarında Filistin coğrafyasına gelmiş Batı Sami kökenli bir kavimdir. Kenan ülkesi, bugün İsrail, Filistin, Lübnan, Ürdün'ün bir kısmı ve Şam'a kadar Suriye'nin bir bölümünü kapsayan topraklara verilen bir isimdir. Buna karşılık yazılı metinlere göre Kenan kültürü, Suriye'de Ugarit ve Ebla kentlerine kadar etkisini göstermektedir. Kenan Ülkesi ve Kenanlılar hakkındaki bilgilerimiz Suriye-Kenan bölgesinde bulunan Ebla, Mari ve Ugarit gibi arşivler ile Antik Mısır belgelerine dayanmaktadır. Antik Mısır, Suriye-Kenan hakkında bilgi veren en önemli kaynaklardan birini oluşturmaktadır.Araştırma konumuz olan M.Ö. II. binyılda Suriye-Kenan coğrafyasında Ebla, Mari, Ugarit, Yamhad, Qatna ve Amurru gibi büyük yerel krallıklar tespit edilmiştir. Çalıştığımız dönemde Hitit, Mısır ve Mitanni, bölgede hâkimiyetlerini sağlamak için birbirlerine karşı savaşlar vermiş olan devletlerdir.Suriye-Kenan bölgesinin Mısır ile olan ilişkisi, oldukça eskilere dayanmaktadır. Ancak bu ilişki ticari bir nitelik taşımaktadır. Mısırın bölgede egemenlik kurma amacı ise firavun Ahmose'nin hükümdarlığı esnasında gerçekleşmiştir. Ancak Hitit Krallığı gücünü toparlayana kadar Mitanniler, Mısır'ın karşısında en büyük engel olmuştur. Šuppiluliuma ile beraber Hititler de Suriye-Kenan bölgesini kendileri için almak istemişlerdir.Çalışmamızda Kenan adının anlamı ve Kenan ülkesinin nerede bulunduğuna açıklık getirmeye çalışarak, Suriye-Kenan bölgesinde kurulmuş olan yerel krallıkları inceleyerek; Mısır ve Hititlerin bölge üzerindeki siyasi tarihine göz atacağız.
