Büyükçekmece Lake Basin is one of Turkey's most important wetland and important natural areas. It is one of the most important drinking water resources of Istanbul and is also connected to the Marmara Sea by a narrow strait. In this study, it is aimed to determine the amphibian and reptile diversity of Büyükçekmece Lake Basin for the first time, to reveal the distribution of species and habitat choices and to determine threatening factors. As a result of the work done; 4 amphibian species (Bufo bufo, Bufotes variabilis, Hyla orientalis, Pelophylax ridibundus) and 12 reptile species (Emys orbicularis, Mauremys rivulata, Testudo graeca, Trachemys scripta, Hemidactylus turcicus, Doliodactylus kotschyi, , Natrix tessellata, Elaphe sauromates) have been recorded, and the prevalence of Triturus ivanbureschi and Lissotriton vulgaris species has been noted in previous studies. With this study, it was determined that a total of 18 species, 6 amphibian and 12 reptile species, lived in Büyükçekmece Lake Basin. In the study area, the most amphibian species diversity was observed in the bushy habitats, the most reptilian species diversity was observed in the stony rocky habitats. The presence of anthropogenic factors affecting the herpetofauna in the area, such as settlement, agriculture and aquaculture, mining, road constructions, water management use, and pollution were determined.

Büyükçekmece Gölü Havzası Türkiye'nin önemli sulak alanlarından ve önemli doğa alanlarından biridir. İstanbul'un en önemli içme suyu kaynaklarından biri olup Marmara Denizi'ne dar bir boğaz ile bağlıdır. Bu çalışmada, ilk defa Büyükçekmece Gölü Havzası'nın amfibi ve sürüngen çeşitliliğinin belirlenmesi, türlerin dağılımının ve habitat seçimlerinin ortaya çıkarılması ve tehdit edici faktörlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yapılan çalışmaların sonucunda; 4 amfibi türü (Bufo bufo, Bufotes variabilis, Hyla orientalis, Pelophylax ridibundus) ve 12 sürüngen türü (Emys orbicularis, Mauremys rivulata, Testudo graeca, Trachemys scripta, Hemidactylus turcicus, Mediodactylus kotschyi, Podarcis siculus, Pseudopus apodus, Dolichophis caspius, Natrix natrix, Natrix tessellata, Elaphe sauromates) kaydedilmiş olup önceki çalışmalarda Triturus ivanbureschi ve Lissotriton vulgaris türlerinin alanda varlığı belirtilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile Büyükçekmece Göl Havzası'nda 6 amfibi ve 12 sürüngen türü olmak üzere toplam 18 türün yaşadığı tespit edilmiştir. Çalışma bölgesinde en fazla amfibi tür çeşitliliği çalılık habitatlarda, en fazla reptil tür çeşitliliği taşlık kayalık habitatlarda gözlenmiştir. Alanda herpetofaunayı etkileyen yerleşim, tarım ve su kültürü, madencilik, yol yapımları, su yönetimi kullanımı, kirlilik gibi antropojenik faktörlerin varlığı belirlenmiştir.
