The purpose of this study was patients with skeletal Class III malocclusions with in the pre and pubertal growth period were divided into three groups according to the vertical growth pattern (vertically decreased, vertically normal and vertically increased). As a result of facemask treatment, skeletal, dental and soft tissue changes in these three groups were compared cephalometrically.58 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion included in the study. These patients were divided into three groups according to SNGoMe angle and the Jarabak ratio. 22 patients with decreased vertical plane angle (mean age 10,53 ± 0,32), 16 patients with increased vertical plane angle (mean age 10,39 ± 0,4) and 20 patients with normal vertical plane angle (mean age 10,02 ± 0,33) were included in the study. These patients were treated with Petit type face mask and acrylic plate covering occlusal surface of the posterior teeth. 450-500 gr force was applied 20-30° downward from the mesial of the canine teeth. The treatment continued approximately 8 months, until positive overjet was obtained. A total of 116 lateral cephalometric radiographs were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of treatment. The data obtained; paired t test was used in evaluating intra-group changes, and ANOVA test was used in evaluating differences between groups. Tukey analysis was applied for between groups comparisons.The crossbite and concave soft tissue profile were treated in all cases. As a resul of treatment, significant increases were observed in SNA°, ANB°, A-y, 1-NA (mm), SN / GoMe°, Co-A values in all three groups, whereas significant decrease were B-y, Pog-y and 1-NB(°).The changes in these parameters were statistically similar between the groups. There was a statistically significant increase in ANS-y and PNS-y values in the vertically decreased group compared to the other two groups. Jarabak ratio and the length of (FH┴N)-Pg(mm) were decreased significantly in the vertically normal group compared to the other groups. The FMA angle showed significantly the least increase in the vertically increased group. The change in these parameters was statistically significant different between the groups (p <0.05). In this study; all three groups showed pronounced protraction in maxilla, but in the vertically decreased group, maxillary movement was found more quantitatively. A pronounced mandibular rotation was observed in the vertically normal group according to the other two groups. In the vertically increased group, there was less increase in vertical direction parameters compared to the other two groups.Key words: Facemask, Class III malocclusion, Vertical growth pattern.

Bu çalışmanın amacı; büyüme gelişim dönemi içerisindeki iskeletsel Sınıf III malokluzyona sahip hastaların, dik yön gelişimlerine göre üç gruba ayırarak (dik yönü azalmış, dik yönü normal ve dik yönü artmış), yüz maskesi tedavisi sonucunda bu üç grup içerisinde iskeletsel, dental ve yumuşak dokuda meydana gelen değişimlerin sefalometrik olarak karşılaştırılmalı olarak incelenmesidir.Araştırmaya dahil edilen 58 iskeletsel Sınıf III malokluzyona sahip hasta; SNGoMe açısı ve Jarabak oranı dikkate alınarak; 22'si dik yönü azalmış (yaş ortalaması 10,53±0,32), 16'sı dik yönü artmış (yaş ortalaması 10,39±0,4) ve 20'si dik yönü normal (yaş ortalaması ve 10,02±0,33) olmak üzere üç gruba ayrıldı. Hastaların tümüne sabit okluzyonu kapalı akrilik plaktan destek alınarak, kanin dişlerin mesialinden 20-30° aşağıya doğru 450-500 gr kuvvet uygulanmıştır. Tedavi pozitif overjet elde edilene kadar ortalama 8 ay sürmüştür. Petit tipi yüz maskesi tedavisi aşamasını tamamlamış hastaların tedavi başı ve sonuna ait toplam 116 adet lateral sefalometrik radyograf değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler; grup içi değişimlerin değerlendirilmesinde eşleştirilmiş t testi, gruplar arası farkların değerlendirilmesinde ise ANOVA testi ile uygulanmıştır. İkili grup karşılaştırmaları için Tukey analizi uygulanmıştır.Bütün hastalarda anterior çapraz kapanış ve yumuşak doku profili düzelmiştir. Tedavi sonunda her üç grupta da, SNA°, ANB°, A-y, 1-NA(mm), SN/GoMe°, Co-A, değerlerinde anlamlı miktarda artış gözlenirken, B-y, Pog-y ve 1-NB(°) anlamlı derecede azalma görülmüştür. Bu parametrelerdeki değişimler gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak benzer bulunmuştur. ANS-y ve PNS-y değerlerinde dik yönü azalmış grupta diğer iki gruba göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir artış tespit edilmiştir. Jarabak oranı ve (FH┴N)-Pg (mm) uzunluğunda, dik yönü normal grupta diğer gruplara göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir azalma görülmüştür. FMA açısında ise dik yönü artmış grupta diğer iki gruba göre anlamlı bir şekilde az artış bulunmuştur. Bu parametrelerdeki değişim gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak önemli ölçüde farklı bulunmuştur (p<0.05).Bu çalışmada; her üç grupta da maksillada belirgin bir ilerleme olduğu ancak dik yönü azalmış grupta, maksillanın hareketi sayısal olarak daha fazla bulunmuştur. Dik yönü normal grupta, diğer iki gruba göre belirgin bir mandibular rotasyon oluştuğu gözlemlenmiştir. Dik yönü artmış grupta ise dik yön parametrelerinde diğer iki gruba göre daha az artış tespit edilmiştir.Anahtar kelimeler: Yüz maskesi, Sınıf III malokluzyon, Vertikal gelişim.
