The aim of this study is to evaluate the changes of patients' temporal and masseter muscle dimensions who before and after treatment unilateral temporomandibular joint surgery by magnetic resonance imaging. Twelve patients with unilateral discectomy + dermis-fat grafting were included in the study and the study was retrospectively planned. For preoperative diagnosis and postoperative 6th month follow-up magnetic resonance imaging taken from patients and muscle dimension was measured in milimeters by the measurement scale in the system where the muscle dimension was most in the medio-lateral direction in the T1 axial sections. Before operation, the difference in size between the temporal and masseter muscles of the operated and non-operated sides of the patients was statistically insignificant (p= 0.885). Postoperatively the decrease of masseter muscle size was found statistically significant in operated side (p= 0.011). Although there was a decrease of temporal muscle dimension at operated side in the postoperative period, this difference was not statistically significant (p= 0,108). The change of masseter and temporal muscle dimension in the postoperative period at non-operated side was not statistically significant (p= 0.136 for masseter, p= 0.538 for temporal). When all findings were evaluated, masseter muscle dimension was decreased at the operated side after TME surgery.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, tek taraflı temporomandibular eklem cerrahisi yapılan hastaların temporal ve masseter kas boyutlarının işlem öncesi ve sonrasında değişimlerinin manyetik rezonans görüntüleme ile değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmaya tek taraflı olarak diskektomi + dermis-fat greft uygulanan 12 hasta hasta dahil edilmiştir ve çalışma retrospektif olarak planlanmıştır. Preoperatif teşhis ve postoperatif 6. ay kontrolü için manyetik rezonans görüntülemeleri olan hastaların T1 aksiyel kesitlerinde kasın boyutunun medio-lateral yönde en fazla olduğu yerden sistemdeki ölçüm skalası ile milimetre (mm) cinsinden ölçümleri yapılmıştır. Operasyon öncesinde temporal ve masseter kaslarının opere olan ve olmayan tarafları arasındaki boyut farkı istatistiksel olarak anlamsız bulunmuştur (p=0,885). Opere olan tarafta masseter kas boyutunda postoperatif dönemde azalma istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur (p=0,011). Temporal kası boyutunda opere olan tarafta postoperatif dönemde azalma olsa da bu fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildir (p=0,108). Masseter ve temporal kasın opere olmayan taraflarında postoperatif dönemde değişim istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildir (masseter için p=0.136, temporal için p=0,538). Tüm bulguları değerlendirdiğimizde, TME ameliyatı sonrasında masseter kası boyutlarında opere olan tarafta kas boyutlarında azalma gözlenmiştir.
