Oxidative stress may lead to decrease in the reproductive system functions or cause infertility. Hazelnut has positive effects on health because of its protein, fat, phytosterol, fiber, antioxidant, vitamin and mineral content. In our study; we aimed to investigate the effects of hazelnut on oxidative stress induced by doxorubicin and aging in reproductive system of male rats. The study group was composed of 48 young, 24 aged Sprague Dawley male rats. The young rats were divided into 6 groups and the aged rats were divided into 3 groups. The number of groups and corresponding diets in young rats were as follow; standard diet (group 1), hazelnut (group 2), doxorubicin (group 3), doxorubicin+hazelnut (group 4), doxorubicin+hazelnut skin (group 5) and doxorubicin+vitamin E (group 6). The aged rats were grouped as standard diet (group 7), hazelnut (group 8) and vitamin E (group 9). All animals decapitated at the end of the 30 days experiment period and testes, epididymis, prostate, epididymal sperm and plasma samples were taken. Testes, epididymis and prostate tissue specimens were examined histopathologically and immunohistochemically. Sperm count, motility and viability were evaluated in epididymal sperm analysis. GPx, MDA, GSH/GSSG levels were determined in plasma, sperm and tissues. Testes, epididymis and prostate tissues in the 3rd group had histopathological damage according to the 1st group. Moreover sperm count, motility, viability and sperm vitamin E level decreased, sperm MDA level increased significantly in the 3rd group (p= 0.025, p= 0.003, p= 0.028, p= 0.028, p= 0.004, respectively). However histopathological improvement and significant increase in sperm count and motility was observed in the 4th group (p= 0.021, p= 0.004, respectively). There was histopathological improvement, significant rise in sperm viability and sperm vitamin E (p= 0.022, p= 0.016, respectively) and significant decrease in sperm MDA level (p= 0.009) in the 8th group when compared to the 7th group. As a result; it has been concluded that positive effects of hazelnut may occur in the male reproductive system in case of damage caused by either doxorubicin or aging.Key Words: Aging, Antioxidant, Hazelnut, Oxidative Stress, ReproductiveSystem.

Oksidatif stres üreme sistemi fonksiyonlarının azalmasına veya infertiliteye sebep olabilir. Fındık, protein, yağ, fitosterol, lif, antioksidan, vitamin ve mineral içeriği nedeniyle sağlık üzerinde olumlu etkilere sahiptir. Çalışmamızda; erkek sıçanların üreme sisteminde doksorubisin ile uyarılan ve yaşlılıkla oluşan oksidatif strese fındığın etkilerini incelemeyi amaçladık. Çalışma grupları 48 genç, 24 yaşlı Sprague Dawley erkek sıçandan oluşturuldu. Gençler kendi içinde 6, yaşlılar kendi içinde 3 gruba ayrıldı. Genç sıçanlarda grup numaraları ve karşılık gelen diyetler şu şekildedir; standart diyet (grup 1), fındık (grup 2), doksorubisin (grup 3), doksorubisin+fındık (grup 4), doksorubisin+fındık zarı (grup 5) ve doksorubisin+E vitamini (grup 6). Yaşlı sıçanlar ise kendi içinde; standart diyet (grup 7), fındık (grup 8) ve E vitamini (grup 9) olarak gruplandırıldı. 30 günlük deney süresinin sonunda tüm hayvanlar dekapite edilerek testis, epididimis, prostat, epididimal sperm ve plazma örnekleri alındı. Testis, epididimis ve prostat doku örnekleri histopatolojik ve immünohistokimyasal olarak incelendi. Epididimal sperm analizinde sperm sayısı, motilite ve canlılık değerlendirildi. Biyokimyasal olarak plazma, sperm ve dokularda GPx, MDA, GSH/GSSG seviyeleri incelendi. 3. grubun testis, epididimis ve prostat dokularında 1. gruba göre histopatolojik hasar meydana geldi. Ayrıca, 3. grupta sperm sayısı, motilite ve canlılığı anlamlı olarak azaldı (sırasıyla p = 0.025, p = 0.003, p = 0.028). Fındık takviyesi yapılan 4. grupta ise 3. gruba göre histopatolojik verilerde iyileşme izlendi. Sperm sayısında, motilitesinde ve sperm E vitamini seviyesinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı artış ve sperm MDA seviyesinde azalış bulundu (sırasıyla p= 0.021, p= 0.004, p= 0.0028, p= 0.004). 7. grup ile karşılaştırıldığında 8. grubun histopatolojik bulgularında iyileşme, sperm canlılığı ve sperm E vitamini seviyesinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı artış (p= 0.022) ve sperm MDA seviyesinde anlamlı azalış (p= 0.009) bulundu. Sonuç olarak; erkek üreme sisteminde gerek doksorubisin ile oluşturulan hasarda gerekse yaşlanmaya bağlı oluşan hasarda fındığın olumlu etkilerinin olabileceği kanaatine varıldı.Anahtar Kelimeler: Antioksidan, Fındık, Oksidatif Stres, Reprodüktif Sistem,Yaşlanma.
