Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) metabolizes various catecholamines such as dopamine, epinephrine, and neurepinephrine. Polymorphisms occurring on this gene are known to disrupt the working mechanism of the enzyme. COMT rs4680 polymorphism causes the Adenine (G → A) substitution of the Guanine nucleotide on the 158th codon located in the 4th exon. As a result of this polymorphism, three genotypes (GG / GA / AA) occur. In our study, the results of COMT rs4680 polymorphism in athletes consisting of different sports branches were statistically analyzed. According to the results of the study with 21 professional volleyball players; Number of athletes of the GG genotype; 6 (28.6%), number of athletes of the GA genotype; 7 (33.3%), the number of athletes of the AA genotype; It was found to be 8 (38.1%). Allele frequencies G allele frequency; 19 (45%), A allele frequency; 23 (55%) were detected. In a survey with 24 swimmers; Number of athletes of the GG genotype; 11 (45.83%), the number of athletes of the GA genotype; 13 (54.16%), the number of athletes of the AA genotype; It was found to be 0 (0%). Allele frequency distributions, G allele frequency; 35 (72.91%), A allele frequency; 13 (27.08%) were detected.In the research conducted with 19 skier runners; Number of athletes of the GG genotype; 4 (21.05%), number of athletes belonging to the GA genotype; 15 (78.94%), the number of athletes of the AA genotype; It was found to be 0 (0%). According to the research result; G allele frequency; 23 (60.52%), A allele frequency; 15 (39.47%) were detected. In a survey with 34 swimmers; Number of athletes of the GG genotype; 12 (35.2%), number of athletes of the GA genotype; 12 (35.2%), the number of athletes of the AA genotype; It was found to be 10 (29.4%). According to the research result; G allele frequency; 36 (52.94%), A allele frequency; 32 (47.05%) were detected. In our study, genotype analysis comparison and allele distribution frequencies of the sports branches, SPSS15 program and chi-square test were applied. Genotype distribution results of COMT rs4680 polymorphism were statistically significant with p: 0.001 in our cohort (p: 0.001; p <0.05). As a result of comparing allele distribution frequencies in sports branches, statistically significant results were obtained with the value of p: 0.046 (p: 0.046; p <0.05).

Çalışmamızda spor branşlarının genotip analizi karşılaştırması ve allel dağılım frekansları SPSS15 programı ve ki-kare testi uygulanmıştır. COMT rs4680 polimorfizmi genotip dağılım sonuçları kohortumuzda p:0,001 değeri ile istatistiksel olarak anlamlı sonuç elde edilmiştir (p:0,001 ; p<0,05). Spor branşlarında allel dağılım frekansları karşılaştırılması sonucu p:0,046 değeri ile istatistiksel olarak anlamlı sonuç elde edilmiştir (p:0,046 ; p<0,05).
