A field experiment was conducted to observe flowering behavior of different sugarcane varieties under the natural environment of El Sabahieya (31°, 12N latitude). Fifty three varieties of sugarcane were grown at El Sabahieya Sugar Crop Research Station, Alexandria, Egypt during seasons 2011/2012. All varieties were planted at two different dates; the first one at the mid of October 2011 (age 1) and the second at end of March 2012 (age 2). During 2012 mean, minimum and maximum temperature range of 23-28°C and 21-26°C was observed during September and October, respectively. El Sabahieya cane flowering site is coastal area where almost 17 photo inductive days are available for exposure of cane varieties to required photoperiod (11.50-12.00hrs) from 26 September to 12 October. It is why most of the cane varieties could show flowering under natural conditions. Our results showed that the percentage of flowering was 72.2 and 73.14% at age 2 and age 1, respectively. There is a significant difference between the mean period of the four studied stages for floral initiation, inflorescence development, flag leaf emergence and full emergence while the mean period of floral initiation stage had the longest time and the full emergence stage shortest time. Varieties Co1127, Co419 and Co449 have a late full bloom so they flowered at June, May and June, respectively when they were planted at March (Age 2) but they flowered at November except variety Co1127 which flowered at January when they planted at October (age1). While varieties Co312 and Co244 flowered at May and June, respectively when they were planted at October (age1) and flowered at December of age 2.While variety Co317 flowered in May at age2 and did not flower at age1. At Alexandria the flowering actually begins to emerge during May and the main period of emergence is June. So we must select varieties and plant them in the suitable date to have a suitable age for flowering stimulus to occur and flowers to produce fertile seeds at natural flowering in El Sabahia.

هذه التجربة الحقلية تدرس سلوك التزهير في اصناف مختلفة من قصب السكر تحت الظروف الطبيعية في محطة بحوث المحاصيل السكرية بالصبحية التي تقع تحت خط عرض 31 °و12´ بالاسكندرية بجمهورية مصر العربية . وقد تم زراعة 53 صنف من قصب السكر خلال موسم 2011/2012 في ميعاديين مختلفين الميعاد الأول في منتصف أكتوبر 2011 (العمر الأول) و الثاني في نهاية مارس 2012 (العمر الثاني). خلال عام 2012 كان متوسط درجه الحرارة القصوي و الصغري يتراوح بين 23-28 °م خلال شهر سبتمبر و 21-26 ° خلال شهر أكتوبر. وطول النهار فيها يتراوح ما بين 5و11 الي 12 ساعة وذلك خلال 17 يوم ابتداء من 26 سبتمبر الي 12 أكتوبر وهذه الظروف مناسبة لحث علي التزهير. وهذا يبين سبب زيادة نسبة حدوث التزهير الطبيعي بالصبحيه حيث تبلغ نسبته في العمر الأول 2و72% وفي العمر الثاني 14و73%. ظهرت فروق معنوية بين متوسط فترات مراحل التزهير الأربعه تحت الدراسة وهي مرحله الدفع للتزهير ومرحلة تطور التزهير ومرحلة العلم و مرحلة الزهرة و كانت أطول فترة هي مرحلة الدفع للتزهير وأقلهم هي مرحلة الزهرة. وجد أن بعض الأصناف يكتمل التزهير بها متأخر مثل صنف كمباتور 1127 و كمباتور419 و كمباتور 449 لذلك يكتمل تزهيرهم خلال شهري مايو و يونيو عند زراعتهم في شهر مارس (العمر الثاني) بينما يتم اكتمال تزهيرهم خلال شهري نوفمبر ويناير عند زراعتهم في شهر اكتوبر (العمر الأول). و علي النقيض فان الصنفين كمباتور312 وكمباتور 244 يتم اكتمال تزهيرهم في شهري مايو و يونيو عند زراعتهم في شهر أكتوبر (العمر الأول) بينما يكتمل تزهيرهما في شهر ديسمبر عند زراعتهم في شهر مارس (العمر الثاني). بينما الصنف كمباتور 317 يزهر في مايو عند زراعته في مارس (العمر الثاني) ولا يزهر اطلاقا عند زراعته في شهر أكتوبر(العمر الأول). في الاسكندرية التزهير الحقيقي للقصب يبدأ خلال شهر مايو والفترة الرئيسية له شهر يونيو لذلك لابد من اختيار الميعاد المناسب للزراعة لكل صنف لحدوث تزهير حقيقي ينتج عنه بذور خصبة تحت ظروف التزهير الطبيعي بالاسكندرية.
