The syrinx morphology and sound production mechanisms have been studied in the songbirds more than in the non-songbirds, whose songs are often regarded as relatively simple. So, the aim of this study is to reveal the morphological and histological characters of the syrinx of two non-songbirds, Streptopelia senegalensis (the laughing dove) and Coturnix coturnix (the common quail). The morphological investigation reveals that the syrinx of both studied species is of a tracheobronchial type, which consists of the modified tracheal rings and the bronchial rings. The modified tracheal rings of both studied species are characterized by the presence of cranial and caudal notches from the ventral side. These modified tracheal rings of Streptopelia senegalensis are ossified ventrally, but they are cartilaginous dorsally. These rings are reduced at the mid dorsal line and are separated by a well-developed tracheosyringeal membrane. Moreover, the modified tracheal rings of Coturnix coturnix are mainly formed of cartilage, but the ventral median portion of the last two modified tracheal rings are ossified and fused to form a tympanic box that supports the tympanium. The modified tracheal rings become broader dorsally and are separated by a thin tracheosyringeal membrane. In both investigated species, there are two pairs of vibrating membranes, namely: the membrana tympaniformis lateralis and medialis. The membrana tympaniformis lateralis of Streptopelia senegalensis extends between the last two modified tracheal rings, while that of Coturnix coturnix extends between the last modified tracheal ring and the first pair of the bronchial rings. Moreover, the membrana tympaniformis medialis of both studied species are located between the dorsal and ventral ends of the bronchial rings. In Streptopelia senegalensis, there are two pairs of the extrinsic syringeal muscles, namely: the tracheolateralis and the sternotrachealis muscles, while in Coturnix coturnix there is only one pair, the sternotrachealis muscles. The histological investigation reveals that the syrinx of both studied species is divided into five elements: the tracheosyringeal membrane, the membrana tympaniformis lateralis, the pessulus, the median labium and the membrana tympaniformis medialis. The morphological and histological traits of the syrinx of both studied species are compared with each other and with those of the previous literature. ركزت أغلب الأبحاث السابقة على دراسة مورفولوجية المحقن وآلية إنتاج الصوت في كثير من الطيور المغردة أكثر من مثيلتها منالطيور غير المغردة، وذلك لأن غالبا ما تعتبر أصواتها بسيطة نسبيا، لذا فإن الهدف من هذا البحث هو دراسة الخصائص المورفولوجيةوالنسيجية لمحقن اثنين من الطيور غير المغردة، وهما اليمام البلدي والسمان. أوضحت الدرسة المورفولوجية للمحقن في كلا النوعين أنه من النوع القصبي الشعبي والذي يتكون من الحلقات المتحورة من القصبة الهوائية وأزواج من الحلقات الشعبية، وتتميز الحلقات المتحورة من القصبة الهوائية في كلا النوعين بوجود نتوءات أمامية وخلفية في السطح البطني للمحقن، وتكون هذه الحلقات فى اليمام البلدي متعظمة من السطح البطني بينما تكون غضروفية رفيعة ويفصل بينها الغشاء القصبي المحقنى من السطح الظهري، وتتكون هذه الحلقات في السمان من الغضروف فيما عدا الجزء الوسطي البطني للحلقتين الأخيرتين منهم، حيث أنهما ملتحمتان ويتكونان من العظم ليكونا الصندوق الطبلاني والذي يدعم الجزء الوسطي من المحقن، كما أن هذه الحلقات تكون أعرض من الجزء الظهري ويفصل بينها الغشاء القصبي المحقني الرفيع. يوجد في كلا النوعين زوجان من الأغشية المترددة (المهتزة): الغشاء الطبلاني الجانبي والغشاء الطبلاني الوسطي، يمتد الغشاء الطبلاني الجانبي بين آخر حلقتين متحورتين من القصبة الهوائية فى اليمام البلدي، بينما يمتد بين آخر حلقة متحورة من القصبة الهوائية و أول زوج من الحلقات الشعبية في السمان، كما يوجد الغشاء الطبلاني الوسطي في كلا النوعين بين الجزء الظاهري والبطني للحلقات الشعبية. هذا ويدعم المحقن في اليمام البلدي زوجان من العضلات المحقنية، وهما العضلة القصبية الجانيية والعضلة القصية القصبية، بينما يدعم المحقن في السمان زوج واحد فقط من العضلات وهو العضلة القصية القصبية. كما أوضحت الدراسة النسيجية للمحقن في كلا النوعين أنه مميز إلى خمسة أجزاء وهي: الغشاء القصبي المحقني و الغشاء الطبلاني الجانبي والباسيولس والشفة الوسطية والغشاء الطبلاني الوسطي. ولقد قورنت الخصائص المورفولوجية والنسيجية للمحقن في كلا النوعين مع بعضها ومع نظيرتها فى الدراسات السابقة.
